‘Tis the season for Major League Baseball players to be put on waivers, clear through waivers and ultimately, have nothing happen. But then again, you never know. CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reports a handful of Los Angeles Dodgers passed through waivers on Tuesday. Outfielders Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford as well as starting pitcher Josh Beckett all cleared waivers. Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez was also claimed off waivers, a source told Heyman. Despite that, Heyman writes, it’s unlikely that any of them — particularly Kemp and Ramirez — are moved. The players who went unclaimed technically can be traded now after clearing waivers. The Dodgers have displayed a willingness to deal after the non-waiver trade deadline, though. They pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Boston Red Sox in 2012 that sent Beckett, Crawford and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers. However, it’s probably unlikely the players are moved given their large contracts and the fact that the Dodgers are among the National League’s best teams with hopes to make a deep postseason run. Ramirez is a different story. Heyman believes the Dodgers will be blocked from being moved, but the team that claimed him does have three days would have three days to work out a trade with the Dodgers.Filed under: Los Angeles Dodgers, MLB, Top Stories
