It appears the Miami Marlins and every other team captivated with Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes will soon be able to bid on his services. According to MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez, Cespedes has established his Dominican residency. Once Major League Baseball declares Cespedes a free agent, he can start negotiating with clubs. Marlins President David Samson earlier this month on his 790 The Ticket radio show said the Marlins were prepared to be aggressive to the point of stupidity in their pursuit of Cespedes. The question is just how much stupidity it’ll take to sign him. The estimates have been all over the map in terms of years (perhaps as many as eight)and dollars (perhaps as much as $60 million). The Tigers reportedly were planning to make a push for Cespedes, but landing Prince Fielder probably takes them out of the mix. The Cubs are poised for a run as well. Cespedes mentioned both Chicago teams, in addition to the Marlins, Orioles, Tigers and Indians among the teams sh...
