Mindy McCready, the country singer star who crossed paths with the sports world due to a reported affair with Roger Clemens, has committed suicide. She was 37.
According to NBC News reporter Andrea Canning, McCready shot and killed herself on Sunday evening. The singer’s brother confirmed the death to the New York Daily News.
McCready was linked to Clemens in 2008, when the Daily News reported she had engaged in a 10-year affair with the pitcher dating back to his time with the Boston Red Sox.
The Daily News reports that McCready had been struggling with mental health issues recently after her boyfriend died of what was initially ruled a suicide. However, the sheriff’s office in Cleburne County, Ark., had opened an investigation into the death.
