Pro Sports Daily:
The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to sign veteran righthander Roy Oswalt to a contract, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reported, citing a major league source.
Oswalt, who saw last season mired by a balky back, must pass a physical before any contract will be signed. The report noted, however, that the deal would be done "soon."
The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers were reportedly in the mix for Oswalt, who posted a 9-10 mark with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts last season with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 34-year-old Oswalt is a three-time All-Star selection and was a National League Cy Young contender on five different occasions.

The Red Sox reportedly made a contract offer to Roy Oswalt this week, but the right-hander could be taking his talents elsewhere. Oswalt is nearing a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, according to ESPN.com's Gordon Edes. A major league source reportedly stated that a deal could get done "soon," although Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak insists that the report...
The team wonders about Roy Oswalt's commitment as it meets with the pitcher today.
Rumors are flying around that free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt is close to choosing his 2012 team, and that the top suitor right now is the reigning World Champion St Louis Cardinals, who are ahead of the Tigers, Red Sox, and Astros in the race for Oswalt. But does the starter make sense for St Louis?
Honestly, it seems like Oswalt would be a better match for the Red Sox,...
According to the latest rumors, Roy Oswalt is likely to end up in St. Louis. Edwin Jackson has "multiple" three-year offers, but may accept a one-year deal to see what his market is for next year. (Which puzzles me a bit, actually. Why not the bird in the hand?) The Sox are still mentioned as a possible one-year destination for Jackson. We're past plan B, and probably...
There have been reports that Cardinals were favored by Roy Oswalt and they are the front-runners in the race. The Cardinals were also reported to have made an identical $5 million offer to Oswalt as the Red Sox did earlier in the week.
According to Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio, the Cardinals appear to have the inside edge on signing free agent pitcher Roy Oswalt...
The Rangers are scheduled to meet with free agent right-handed starter Roy Oswalt on Monday, a source confirmed Sunday afternoon.
I received several texts, emails and phone calls in the days following the Tigers’ signing of Prince Fielder. The messages varied, but the tone was always the same:
“Now we have to go sign Roy Oswalt, there’s no way we can compete without him.”
“Now we have no reason to sign Oswalt, we can’t compete this year, period.”
“Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera in the same...

Free agent Roy Oswalt will not be choosing a new team Friday, a major league source said, even as reports surfaced that the veteran hurler is leaning toward signing with the St. Louis Cardinals.
