Heath Bell Explains Why Pitching for Red Sox Never Came to Fruition, Says Marlins Were 'Really Aggressive'
DALLAS –– During the offseason, Heath Bell was on the Red Sox' radar. But apparently, they weren't aggressive enough for his preference. As a result of Boston's meticulous approach, the Marlins swooped in and inked the closer to a three-year, $27 million contract. After his introductory press conference on Monday, Bell reflected on why playing in Boston never came...

The other involved the Padres. With Cincinnati not prepared to sign off, and showing signs it might not...
BP Unfiltered: Winter Meetings Dispatch: The Social Ramble Ain't Restful, with Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols, Huston Street by Steven Goldman
Overture: as I look over at the MLB network set on my left, I see that Peter Gammons has moved over to make room for Harold Reynolds. No matter how far you run, Peter, you cannot get away.
As Satchel Paige noted, the social ramble ain't restful. If the purpose of these meetings is for general managers to meet and make deals, they fail woefully. There is also a great deal of...
Daily Friar 12.8.11
The Winter Meetings are over with some major moves being announced this morning, as well as the rule 5 draft. The Angels grabbed the top prize in Albert Pujols, as well as C.J. Wilson. Very interesting indeed to see Pujols on the move. I for one thought he would remain a Cardinal. The Padres remained fairly quiet, but apparently there are moves that are still in place that could...
Trading Parnell Is Reminiscent Of When Mets Traded Heath Bell
Adam Rubin of ESPN reports that the Mets were debating the idea of trading Bobby Parnell to an unspecified team for a starting position player.
On Tuesday, the Mets drastically revamped their bullpen, adding Jon Rauch, Ramon Ramirez and Frank Francisco to handle the closing and setup duties. The three new additions to the pen could make Parnell, Beato and Acosta expendable...

Ben Cherington Lowers Expectations at Winter Meetings
Ben Cherington is taking a wait and see approach to the Hot Stove, and so far fans are seeing players sign elsewhere. The Red Sox need at least one more solid starter but Cherington said they may be taking a pass on the Buehrle and C.J. Wilson:

New Angels LHP C.J. Wilson: If it was just about money, I’d be a Marlin
Geography generally doesn’t hinder the Marlins when it comes to player procurement. It’s one of the organization’s strongest selling points.
In C.J. Wilson’s case, it was the lone reason he did not join fellow free agents Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell on the Marlins.
Thursday morning, Wilson’s camp informed the Marlins that in spite of having the best deal on...
