Revere is an option for CF. (MLB)
-Thursday, 12:15pm: According to Todd Zolecki via Twitter, the Phillies have acquired Twins CF Ben Revere. Vance Worley is in the deal, according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.
An executive told Zolecki, “If they get him, based on what’s available, they did all right.”
-Ben Revere has taken off in the last hour or so as a target for the Phillies. The Twins are reportedly dying for pitching, and the Phils have set their sights on the 24-year old center fielder, according to multiple reports.
Revere obviously won’t help in the power department, as he’s never hit a homer in the majors. However, he’s good defensively and has quick wheels, making him a possible leadoff batter. That, and he’s super cheap. Revere is not yet arbitration eligible, so while he might cost Vance Worley, he’s under team control for quite a while.
If the Phillies were to zone in on Revere and nab him from Minnesota, it might open things up for a move for a slugging corner outfielder.
-It appears we’re just waiting on a decision from Michael Young. A trade seems close according to Jim Salisbury at CSNPhilly.com, with the only hold up being Young’s no-trade clause, which comes from his 10-5 rights.
If Young is traded, look for the Rangers to pick up $10 million or more of his $16 million contract for 2013. There has been speculation of the players the Phillies would be sending to the Rangers in return, with Michael Schwimer being a prime suspect.
