There were reports following the Marco Scutaro trade that the Red Sox would make an aggressive push for free-agent starter Roy Oswalt. They may be in the process of doing just that. The Sox have made Oswalt an offer, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, but it's reportedly unclear whether he's interested in joining the team. Heyman reports that Oswalt has already rejected an offer from the Tigers, and the Red Sox are unclear whether he'd come to Boston since he hasn't yet accepted their offer. Oswalt reportedly may prefer the Reds, Rangers or Cardinals. ESPN's Jim Bowden also reported...

Vote: Would You Rather See Roy Oswalt or Edwin Jackson Become a Member of the Red Sox?

There's been a lot of rumors floating around regarding the Red Sox and their pursuit of starting pitching. Two separate reports surfaced on Wednesday, one indicating that the Sox have made an offer to Roy Oswalt, while the other indicated that they made an offer to fellow free-agent Edwin Jackson. The latter, by ESPN's Jim Bowden, said that the Sox actually prefer Jackson...

Oswalt: Forget the Motor City

Roy Oswalt has declined a chance to pitch in Detroit.Rumors persist that he will come here, to play for a team that finished with a worse record in 2011 and failed to make the playoffs. He declined to pitch alongside the Cy Young award winner and MVP, who reportedly called to convince him.I'm appalled. What's wrong with Detroit? But, if he does come here, I reserve the right...

Roy Oswalt Wants to Pitch for Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers recently acquired Japanese pitching sensation Yu Darvish, but he’s never pitched in America. A three-time All-Star who has pitched in the big leagues for a decade is interested in joining the Rangers and Texas would be crazy not to take advantage of it. Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Roy Oswalt is a free agent and a source close to the Phillies said he wants...

The Big Domino

Prince Fielder is out of the NL Central on a ridiculous nine-year deal, which leaves precious few high-level free agents on the market. Two of them -- Roy Oswalt and Edwin Jackson -- are pitchers that certain bloggers wearing a Penguins shirt while sitting in a lab in North Carolina would like to see the Pirates show some interest in. Unfortunately, I don't see any way that the...

Must Be New Math

One thing I find a little puzzling is talk that trading Marco Scutaro opened up room on the Red Sox payroll. Clearly it did, but not that much. Baseball Reference says Scutaro made $5.5 million in 2011 -- nothing to sneeze at, but not a bank-breaker by baseball standards.By comparison, Bobby Jenks, who appeared in 19 games, made $6 million in 2011.People speculating on this windfall...

Jackson may be Red Sox’ target

When the Red Sox traded shortstop Marco Scutaro to the Rockies last week, the expectation was that they would use the money saved to improve their thin rotation.

Red Sox Should Use Newfound Financial Flexibility to Pursue Player Like Cody Ross for Needed Outfield Depth

The Red Sox are positioned for another major acquisition. By trading shortstop Marco Scutaro to Colorado, the Red Sox shed $6 million off the books, a move that may make once again make them buyers in the free-agent market. With the financial flexibility, it's plausible that general manager Ben Cherington will increase his pursuit of pitcher Roy Oswalt. The veteran is reportedly...
