The Boston Red Sox are reportedly moving closer to a deal with veteran righthander Vicente Padilla.
SI.com reported that Boston's interest in Padilla picked up after he was mentioned in talks with Arizona on Friday.
The 34-year-old Padilla made only nine relief appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season before undergoing surgery for a bulging disk in his neck.
He had missed the first 20 games of the season while recovering from forearm surgery and went on the 15-day disabled list in mid-May due to a nerve injury in his forearm.
Padilla has a 104-90 lifetime record but has been bothered by elbow issues throughout his career.
