The winter meetings are starting on Monday, but some news is already coming out of Nashville.
Larry Lucchino said the Red Sox are still trying to sign first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli, but the team needs him to agree to a three-year deal, not four years, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN.
Rumors have abounded this offseason that the Red Sox’ No. 1 free agent priority to fill their first base need is to sign Napoli, but they aren’t doing it without caution. Napoli has also drawn interest from the Mariners and Rangers.
He hit 24 home runs and 56 RBIs with a .227 batting average last season for Texas. In his career, he has 146 home runs and 380 RBIs while hitting .259.
