The Red Sox reportedly added a pitcher to their system. The Red Sox signed right-hander Bobby Lanigan, according to WEEI.com’s Alex Speier. Lanigan was recently released by the Minnesota Twins after splitting time between the organization’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates this season. Lanigan was drafted in the third round by Minnesota in 2008, and he proceeded to bounce around the Twins system. The 26-year-old spent most of his time this season with Double-A New Britain, where he went 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA in 28 2/3 innings over 23 relief appearances. Lanigan, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., has been used as a reliever the last two seasons after beginning his professional career as mainly a starter. He is 40-31 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 157 games (82 starts) over the course of six minor league seasons. Red Sox signed minor lg RHP Bobby Lanigan (formerly of Twins system), assigned him to Portland. 26-yr-old w/4.03 ERA, 6.5 K/9, 2.1 bb/9— Alex Speier (@alexspeier) July 12, 2013 Have a question for Ricky Doyle?
