The Red Sox reportedly added a pitcher to their system.
The Red Sox signed right-hander Bobby Lanigan, according to WEEI.com’s Alex Speier. Lanigan was recently released by the Minnesota Twins after splitting time between the organization’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates this season.
Lanigan was drafted in the third round by Minnesota in 2008, and he proceeded to bounce around the Twins system. The 26-year-old spent most of his time this season with Double-A New Britain, where he went 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA in 28 2/3 innings over 23 relief appearances.
Lanigan, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., has been used as a reliever the last two seasons after beginning his professional career as mainly a starter. He is 40-31 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 157 games (82 starts) over the course of six minor league seasons.

(Stephen Brashear/Getty Images)Today was not Ryan Dempster's day. He hurled just three and one-third innings and gave up seven earned runs. However, his misfortune was a great opportunity for Steven Wright. No, not the guy who has his personal seashell collection scattered across the beaches of the Earth. This Steven Wright is the knuckle-balling new guy who pitched 5 2/3 stellar...
Clay Buchholz finished a light, but eagerly anticipated, bullpen session yesterday and therefore could return to the mound for the Red Sox within a week after the All-Star break.

Still, though, the Red Sox would like to have some setup arms to get the ball to Uehara. The Red...
