Consider it a quick vacation. Now, it's back to work. Scott Podsednik has signed a major league contract with the Red Sox, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. If accurate, the signing comes less than two weeks after Podsednik was traded by the Sox with Matt Albers to the Diamondbacks in exchange for Craig Breslow. Podsednik never ended up appearing in a game with the D-Backs, as he was released after declining to accept his assignment to Triple-A Reno. According to The Boston Globe, Podsednik will re-join the Red Sox on Friday, and Ryan Kalish will be optioned back to...

Unsung Heroes Waiting to Emerge as Red Sox Try to Bounce Back Against Indians (Video)

Scott Podsednik makes his return to the Red Sox lineup on Friday night against Cleveland, and while that might not sound like a lot, it could make all the difference for this one. After all, with the Sox in need of a win in any way possible, every little bit will help, regardless of where it comes from. The same, however, could be said for the Indians, who are playing with a little...

Sox to send Kalish down to make room for Podsednik

News came out yesterday that the Sox re-signed Scott Podsednik -- sent to Arizona in the Craig Breslow deal, but immediately released -- for the remainder of the season. The perplexing move was seemingly injury insurance, but now Dan Roche says the Sox are assigning Podsednik to the big club and sending down Ryan Kalish. I'm inclined to say this move is insane, but the motivation...

Red Sox Re-Sign Podsednik

With the Boston Red Sox slowly but surely falling out of the playoff race in the American League, there's probably no one who can help this team out. Or is there? After trading Scott Podsednik to the Arizona Diamondbacks along with Matt Albers for Craig Breslow, Podsednik was optioned to Triple-A Reno by the DBacks. But instead of taking the option, he used his right to...

Red Sox Live Blog: Scott Podsednik Returns to Outfield as Clay Buchholz Looks to Shutdown Indians

5:45 p.m.: It looks like Felix Doubront is going to be shut down, but not for good. Bobby Valentine told reporters in Cleveland on Friday that the 24-year-old starter will be skipped over in the rotation for his next scheduled start, in favor of Aaron Cook. Cook hasn't started since a dominant win over the Rangers on Monday and likely won't take the hill again until next...
