Found December 21, 2011 on Redleg Nation:
According to ESPNChicago’s Bruce Levine, the Reds and Cubs have apparently completed the trade “in principle” that brings left-handed relief pitcher Sean Marshall to Cincinnati.  In exchange, the Reds sent left-handed starting pitcher, Travis Wood, and two minor league players to Chicago.  No details yet on the two minor league players. Both Marshall and Wood still have to pass physicals.  The trade has not yet been confirmed by either team. For the past two years, Marshall has been one of the most dominant relievers in baseball.  His combined stats for 2010 and 2011: 10.12 K/9, 2.51 BB/9, 2.07 FIP, 2.45 ERA, 55% GB, 5.0 fWAR and he saved six games. Marshall is scheduled to make $3.1 million in 2012 and then is eligible for free agency.  It is unclear whether the Reds intend to use Marshall as their closer or continue his role as a set-up reliever, although most reports indicate that Marshall’s role will be locking down the 8th inning.

Recent transactions: my take

LHP Sean Marshall and two prospects to the Reds for LHP Travis Wood Probably a win-win for both sides. The Reds are making a real run at the NL Central crown, having gutted their farm system for Mat Latos and now, dealing five years of Travis Wood for one of Sean Marshall. We can debate the long-term implications all we want, but Wood at best is a #4/#5 starter while Marshall is...
