All right, Red Sox fans. You get your wish. Xander Bogaerts appears to be about to make his long-awaited major league debut. The prospect will be called up to join the Red Sox on Monday as they hit the road for a week on the West Coast, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports. Bogaerts, a shortstop, has been getting some practice at third base in Triple-A Pawtucket recently. In 60 games in Triple-A this year, he’s hit .284 with a .369 on-base percentage and nine home runs. Sox fans have been banging to see his hot bat and slick glove in the majors all year, especially since Jose Iglesias was dealt away to the Tigers in the Jake Peavy deal. Bogaerts provides another right-handed bat for the Sox, who could use some help against lefties, especially with former power source Mike Napoli slumping. Bogaerts takes the place of Brock Holt on the Sox roster. Holt has hit .203 in 23 games for Boston, where he filled in as a utility infielder. Boston is also calling up catcher David Ross, who is coming off the 60-day disabled list, where he was dealing with concussion issues. He’ll take the place of Ryan Lavarnway, who will also be optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket. Filed under: Boston Red Sox, Headlines, NESN Staff, Pawtucket Red Sox
