Heeeee’s baaaaack. Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez was recalled by the team today, over two months after being placed on the disabled list in mid-May with a quadriceps injury. Here's to hoping Pedro gets back to hitting like he did in 2010. Alvarez has been fully healthy for a few weeks now, but was left in AAA by the organization with hope that he would work out his swing and regain some confidence, as the slugger with the Ryan Howard-like ceiling hit just .208 with two home runs and a .587 OPS in 36 games with the Pirates pre-injury. Alvarez has been phenomenal in AAA, compiling a .365 average with three home runs, three doubles, 13 RBI, and a 1.048 OPS in 18 games. In all honesty, this is most likely the biggest, most important move the Pirates will make this July, even with the trade deadline less than a week away.
