The Pittsburgh Pirates today called up starting pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and will give him the start tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ohlendorf, who received $2 million+ in arbitration this summer, has no record and a 7.27 ERA in the majors this season, though he only started two games before being placed on the disabled list.
Ohlendorf last pitched for the Pirates on April 8, but has a 3.65 ERA in seven minor league starts, six of which were considered rehab.
The team designated lefty reliever Joe Beimel for assignment to make room for Ohlendorf. Beimel has a 5.33 ERA in 35 appearances with the Bucs this season.
Ohlendorf and last night’s starter Brad Lincoln are expected to keep their rotation spots as long as starter Kevin Correia is on the disabled list.
