Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Jose Reyes reached the 200-hit plateau with a bases-loaded triple in the Mets' win over the Cubs. Reyes has 65 triples over the last four seasons. Over the last 80 years, only Paul Waner and Earle Combs had that many triples over a four-year span. Combs' highest four-year total was 81 from 1927 to 1930; Waner's highest total was 74 from 1926 to 1929.
Reyes is only the second player in Mets history to record 200 hits in a season. Lance Johnson did it in 1996. Since 1962, the Mets first season, only four other franchises that have been around that long have as few as two 200-hit seasons: Giants (2), Athletics (1), White Sox (1), Astros (1).
Reyes has four bases-loaded triples since 2003, tying him with Ray Durham for the most by any major league player over that span. Reyes and James Loney are the only players with two bases-loaded triples this season.
