The Colorado Rockies signed veteran righthander Kevin Millwood to a contract and started him in Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds.
The start was the 36-year-old's first since last September with the Baltimore Orioles.
Millwood took the place of righthander Juan Nicasio, who suffered a neck injury after he was hit by a line drive on Friday.
Millwood had been angling for a return to the majors after signing a minor-league contract with the New York Yankees during the offseason. He was granted free agency May 1 and latched on with the Boston Red Sox, before being released last week.
