Losing Nolan Ryan: The Angels Biggest Mistake

By Rob Goldman - AngelsWin.com Staff Writer In eight seasons with the Angels Nolan Ryan had helped lead the team from obscurity to serious contention. And he had conducted himself with the utmost class, professionalism and dignity. The fans, press and ownership loved him unconditionally, so even though Ryan was without a contract heading into the 1979 off-season, there was little...

Brad Mills claimed by Rangers from Angels

Left-hander Brad Mills has been claimed by the Texas Rangers off waiver from the Los Angeles Angels. Mills was 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA in three exhibition games with the Angels. In his only major league appearance last year, Mills threw five scoreless innings and allowed three hits on July 8 against Baltimore and gained the victory. He was 5-10 with a 5.86 ERA in 19 starts and two relief...

Player Profile #19: Josh Hamilton | OF | LAA

For the entirety of Josh Hamilton‘s major league career, he’s been regarded as an elite fantasy option. For a player with only a little stolen base potential, I find it interesting that he’s earned this reputation despite some non-stellar power totals. That changed last year as Hamilton hit 43 homers, 11 more than his previous [...]

Source: Yanks eyeing Angels' Wells

The Yankees, trying to addressing their offensive needs, are engaged in "very active talks" to acquire Angels outfielder Vernon Wells, according to a major league source. Wells, 34, is owed salaries of $21 million in each of the next two seasons. The Angels almost certainly would need to pay the bulk of that money to facilitate a trade. The Yankees are under the impression...

Catching Mike Trout

Think fast! Tell me something Mike Trout isn’t very good at. If you said “winning Most Valuable Player awards”, you’re not wrong. If you said “ice hockey” you’re also not wrong, probably. But in terms of on-field baseball skills, Trout is across-the-board outstanding. There are, of course, some things he’s better at than others, and one notes that he just had twice...

Angels players have clubhouse pool going for whether Josh Hamilton will be booed or cheered in Texas

There is very little doubt that Josh Hamilton is going to be booed when the Los Angeles Angels travel to Arlington this season to face the Texas Rangers. His career in Texas ended on fairly sour terms, and Rangers fans probably became even more irritated with him when Hamilton said Dallas is not a true baseball town. Hamilton will get the reception out of the way early, as the Rangers...

Wells excited to join Pinstripes

Vernon Wells is definitely excited about joining the New York Yankees. Within two hours of Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi reporting the veteran outfielder , currently with the Los Angeles Angels, in on the verge of a deal to land in the Bronx as a new member of the Yankees, Wells tweeted: Thankful and Blessed! #Pinstripes -- Vernon Wells (@VernonWells10) March 24, 2013 Though...

Wells, 34, is owed salaries of $21 million in each of the next two seasons. Under the terms of the trade, the Yankees will be obligated to pay $13.9 million of that remaining $42 million obligation over the next two seasons, with the...

Angels close to Wells deal with Yankees

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Vernon Wells is on the verge of becoming the latest addition to the New York Yankees' injury-depleted lineup. New York neared an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday to acquire the 34-year-old outfielder, who has slumped since hitting 32 homers with 106 RBIs for Toronto in 2006. "It'd be a huge change. I don't think it's ever...

Report: Yankees in Talks to Trade for Angels Vernon Wells

Desperate times calls for desperate measures, and make no mistakes about it, this is a move of desperation by the New York Yankees. Earlier, we reported that Yankees shortstop and captain Derek Jeter, will almost certainly miss the beginning of the season because he has yet to fully recover from a broken ankle he suffered in the postseason late last year. The Bronx Bombers are...

Giants 5, Angels 4

Barry Zito pitched five effective innings and Buster Posey hit a go-ahead single in the ninth to lift the San Francisco Giants over the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 on Sunday. Zito allowed one run and six hits in his sixth start this spring. Fellow left-hander Jason Vargas was even better for the Angels in his fifth Cactus League start. Vargas was charged with one run and five hits while...

MLB Season Preview- AL West

Stop me when this sentence sounds familiar, “The Angels made the big splash of the offseason.” It was like déjà vu, only this time they stole Josh Hamilton from division foe Texas Rangers. Did the Rangers do enough to compete after losing Hamilton? Nah. Did last year’s division winning Oakland Athletics do enough to repeat? Probably not, but let’s not under estimate Billy...
