Every good pitcher in the big leagues – even the best ones – have teams that, for whatever reason, just seem to have the hurler’s number. For former Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, it’s the Texas Rangers (8-7 in 20 starts, 5.17/1.38 ERA/WHIP); for Ricky Romero, the current ace of the Jays, the Achilles heel may well be the Boston Red Sox.
Going into tonight’s series finale, Romero has as 2-5 record against the Jays’ division rivals, while posting an ugly 7.69/2.13 ERA/WHIP ratios against the team in 10 starts. Red Sox hitters have been, by far and away, the most successful team at hitting Ricky Romero, with a batting average of .350, and were unfortunately able to continue that success tonight, hitting Romero hard again in a 4-6 loss for the Blue Jays.
Romero has lasted an average of less than 5 innings during his previous 10 starts against the Red Sox, and that trend continued today, as the Blue Jays lefty was chased after 4.1 innings, having given u...
