Rockies-herrera-waits
NEW YORK - Jonathan Herrera raced home on a passed ball in the eighth inning to break a tie as the Colorado Rockies edged the New York Mets 3-1 in front of a crowd of 23,833 Monday night at Citi Field. The Rockies (47-73) won for the sixth time in their last eight games and improved to 27-8 in games in which they allow three runs or less. The Mets (57-65) dropped the opener of a series for the 25th time in 40 tries this year. Herrera led off the eighth with an infield single and went to second when the scoop throw from losing pitcher Josh Edgin (1-1) sailed past first baseman Ike Davis. Herrera advanced to third on a sacrifice by Chris Nelson before scoring on the passed ball charged to Kelly Shoppach, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the seventh. Edgin has allowed seven runs (six earned) in 2 2/3 innings over his last four appearances. The Mets loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth against winning pitcher Rex Brothers (7-2) before Matt Beli...

Collin McHugh Or Jenrry Mejia Could Replace Johan Santana On Thursday

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says it’s possible RHP Jenrry Mejia could make Thursday’s start instead of Johan Santana. Rumblings suggest Jenrry Mejia may make Johan Santana’s next start, with the Mets sticking to a six-man rotation. After deciding that Santana would make his next start on Thursday, the Mets announced that Santana has a stiff back. He will have an MRI today...

R.A. Dickey’s quest for 20 wins was not helped by Mets anemic offense

New York Mets starter, R.A. Dickey tossed seven innings allowing just one run on x hits while striking out x on Monday night, but his efforts were rewarded with a no-decision as the Mets, once again, struggled to put up runs lossing for the fifth time in their last seven games: After a Mike Baxter double, a intentional walk to David Wright, and a five-pitch walk to Daniel Murphy...

Thoughts on Left on Base and GDPs for the Mets

Sunday the Mets left 10 runners on base and lost, 5-2. The story of the game is they had their chances but could not cash in. It stood in stark contrast to Saturday’s contest, where the Mets left only three runners on base but won the game. It’s easy to view Left On Base (LOB) as a negative thing but if you are ever asked to lead the league in a negative category, make sure...

Jenrry Mejia Could Start In Place Of Johan Santana On Thursday

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says it’s possible RHP Jenrry Mejia could make Thursday’s start instead of Johan Santana. Mazzoni Solid, But B-Mets Offense Absent In 4-0 Loss To Richmond

The Binghamton Mets batters were only able to squeak out three hits on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium and in the process couldn’t plate any runs as the Richmond Flying Squirrels took game two of the series by a four to nothing tally. The B-Mets first recorded hit came in the bottom of the third by way of starting pitcher Cory Mazzoni.  Mazzoni, who went 1-for-2 in the game,...

Happy Birthday, Todd Helton; Time to call it a career

Denver, CO. The end of this season will mark the 20th in Colorado Rockies franchise history, and unfortunately will go down as one of their worst ever. After preseason aspirations of playing meaningful baseball well into August and September, this season has been full of awful pitching, poor defense, and a few injuries here and there. One of those injuries belongs to Todd Helton...

Mets 101 Prospect Watch: Juan Lagares

One of the more troubling areas for the New York Mets to address is their outfield. The team’s outfield has struggled mightily this season, and that includes glimpses of the team’s prospects from AAA Buffalo, such as Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. While Matt Den Dekker is a potential September call up for the Amazin’s, the team does have some interesting pieces in its lower...

Young starts strong, falls apart quickly in 6-2 loss to Rockies

Was Chris Young really perfect through five innings, or was I just imagining things? Young struck out the first four batters of the game and didn’t allow any baserunners until the top of the sixth, when D.J. LeMahieu rolled an infield single up the middle. One would hope that Young would shake off the hit and continue with his dominant outing, but hoping for those type of things...

Mets lose with Dickey on the mound. Offense a big Zero again

The Mets as usual these days had no offense last night. This against a team that has the worst ERA in the National league by over a run! Pathetic! The Rockies working with a 4 man rotation and a 9 man bullpen were able to keep the Mets in check and won 3-1. Dickey was taken out in the 7 inning for a pinch hitter and the Mets offense could do nothing against the Rockies bullpen. The Rockies had

Mets ballboy makes backhand grab of line drive (Video)

A New York Mets ballboy made a nice grab of a line drive during Tuesday night's game at Citi Field against the Colorado Rockies. It happened in the bottom of the second inning on a foul liner down the first base side by Mets batter Mike Baxter. The ballboy didn't even get up from the stool he was sitting on as he made the backhanded catch with his glove, then nonchalantly...

Enough Already, It’s Time To See The Kids

The best thing about summer is that there is a baseball game on virtually everyday. When life gets you down or you feel that you need an escape, you can just turn on the television and immerse yourself in a ballgame. As a baseball fan I usually can enjoy each game as a single entity and forget about where we are in the standings. Lately instead of being able to enjoy a game I find...

Rockies 6, Mets 2

Jhoulys Chacin made an impressive return from an extended absence and the Colorado Rockies backed him with a pair of sharp defensive plays, beating the New York Mets 6-2 Tuesday night. Chacin had not pitched in the majors since May 1 because of inflammation in his right shoulder. He came off the disabled list earlier in the day and held the Mets to one run and four hits in six innings...

Offense Struggles In 4-1 Bisons Loss

One night after beating the Pawtucket Red Sox in a squeaker at Fenway Park, the Buffalo offense struggled once again, losing 4-1. Jeurys Familia took the mound trying to build on his dominant performance in his last start against Lehigh Valley, when he tossed seven shutout innings, allowing only four hits and striking out eight. He kept the Bisons in the game, but it sure wasn...
