Rockies-chacin-pitches
NEW YORK -- Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy gushed after the game about his team's situational hitting and offered a warm welcome back not only for starter Jhoulys Chacin, but the right-hander's improved fastball command. New York Mets manager Terry Collins was spouting off, too, following the Mets' 6-2 defeat to the Rockies on Tuesday night at Citi Field. But he was focused on what his team had lost rather than anything it had found. Chacin gave the Rockies a strong start in his first appearance since May 1, and his hitters eventually made sure Mets starter Chris Young was far from perfect with a four-run sixth inning during their third straight win. The Mets dropped their third in a row, losing Collins in the process, as he was ejected in the fifth inning. After the game, Collins held a team meeting, later saying he was not pleased with some of the club's sloppy play on a night that began with starter Young throwing five perfect innings. "I'...

Have the Mets Given Up?

I can barely bring myself to pay attention anymore. I’m sure I’m not alone. I’m sure there are other Met fans out there who have decided to get on with their lives and not concern themselves any further with the goings-on in Queens, as evidenced by the acres of empty green plastic at Citi Field. The mornings have gotten colder, it’s dark out when I wake up, the summer...

Mets Minors: Zach Lutz looking to force promotion with bat alone

If a player can hit over .300 with good patience and power… why isn’t he playing in the big leagues?  The answers to that question are varied but in the particular case of Zach Lutz, let’s try to get to the bottom of it. Lutz was a 5th round pick for the Mets back in 2007.  Zach’s father, Yogi Lutz (…AWESOME!), was his coach through high school where Lutz played third...

Tyler Chatwood will get the start for the Rockies today as Collin McHugh will be making his major league debut. McHugh, who has been described as Gee-esque, 7-9 over 143.2 innings this season in two minor leagues. In that stretch he has an ERA of 2.88, a WHIP of 1.143 and a K/9 of 8...

Present Gets in the Way of the Future as Mets Fall to Rockies

For six innings on Wednesday night, Matt Harvey reminded Mets fans that this franchise has what can be a bright future. But when Terry Collins brought in Ramon Ramirez to start the seventh inning, it was as if he wanted to send a message that the present still sucks. Within two pitches of Harvey’s exit the Mets were behind. Ramirez gave up a solo home run to Rockies catcher Willin...

Perception meets Reality: Mets look like they have thrown in the towel

After Tuesday’s night’s 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies, Terry Collins was steaming mad at the effort the Mets put forth and uttered what many of us were thinking when he said the following to reporters: “Perception is reality. And when you sit on the outside and you watch a game like tonight, perception is, ‘they’ve packed it in.’ I won’t stand for it. I believe in...

B-Mets Close Out Homestand With 6-3 Win

Drew Carpenter earned his third save in as many attempts on Wednesday night The rubber match and final game of the season between the Binghamton Mets and New Hampshire Fisher Cats went the way of the home team as the B-Mets won by a score of six to three. Binghamton jumped out to the early three run lead before watching the Fisher Cats claw their way back into the game.  After four...

Young starts strong, falls apart quickly in 6-2 loss to Rockies

Was Chris Young really perfect through five innings, or was I just imagining things? Young struck out the first four batters of the game and didn’t allow any baserunners until the top of the sixth, when D.J. LeMahieu rolled an infield single up the middle. One would hope that Young would shake off the hit and continue with his dominant outing, but hoping for those type of things...

Mets 101 News and Notes: Could Johan Santana Be Done for the Season?

As the New York Mets continue their slow march to the end of the regular season, one troubling trend that can't be ignored is the sudden decline of Mets starter Johan Santana. Santana, who delivered what looks to be the apex of the 2012 season with his no hitter on June 1st, has fallen into a tailspin since that game. Santana's ERA since his no hitter is...

Mets Drop Ugly Game To Rockies, 6-2

Pack It Up, Pack It In, Let NEXT SEASON Begin

“We have not packed it in…When you sit on the outside and watch a game like tonight, perception is they’ve packed it in.” – Terry Collins. Well, Terry, when you make fundamental and mental errors like the team did tonight it’s plain to see this team is looking toward next season.  So, as a fan, I plan on doing the same.  There is NO WAY after I watched that horrendously...
