SCOTTSDALE — The Rockies’ rotation will begin its American Idol-type auditions this week, attempting to narrow the candidates. Close your eyes at the end of spring training and you can practically see pitching coach Bob Apodaca telling the top five, “You’re going to Houston.” Five weeks from opening day, the competition begins in earnest, starting with Friday’s 6-to-8 inning intrasquad game. Juan Nicasio continues his remarkable recovery by pitching in Sunday’s intrasquad game. His first official game since breaking his neck on Aug. 5 will be Friday against Oakland at Salt River Fields. The schedule: FRIDAY MARCH 2 INTRASQUAD: Jamie Moyer, Jeremy Guthrie, Guillermo Moscoso, Alex White, Esmil Rogers, Chad Bettis, Rafael Betancourt, Matt Belisle, Stephen Dodson, Josh Sullivan, Carlos Torres. I work out: Rockies CF Fowler adds 13 pounds

Colorado Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler spent his offseason undergoing a physical transformation. He worked out with teammates Jason Giambi and Troy Tulowitzki along with a trainer for two months in Las Vegas. Fowler worked on his explosiveness, lifted weights more and ate healthier. He enters spring training 13 pounds heavier than a year ago, but he also lost 4 percent of...

Rockies move on after 2 disappointing seasons

Todd Helton is relieved all the hype of a year ago surrounding the big-spending Colorado Rockies has subsided significantly. Slugger Carlos Gonzalez acknowledges that the $80 million, seven-year contract he received last offseason and Troy Tulowitzki's monster deal might have been a distraction for a club that began 2011 as an NL West favorite. Helton says, ''When we...

Georgia Soccer Player Carli Shultis Arrested For Stealing Hash Browns

There are days when Cuff ‘Em is horrible and the only story we can wrangle is something about a guy wearing a Colorado Rockies baseball hat & ‘poofy’ jacket jumping through a drive-thru window and robbing a coffee shop. Then there are days when BC comes across starlets like Georgia soccer player Carli Shultis. This chick was arrested last week on one of the craziest theft...

Drew Pomeranz made four starts (2-1, 5.40 ERA) with the Rockies in his debut last season. But it was far from an ordinary debut.

Clubhouse seating part of Rockies’ team-building game plan

A tour of the Rockies’ plush spring training clubhouse tells me something. The Rockies are taking this team culture, team chemistry, team building thing seriously. Here’s what I mean: * Drew Pomeranz, the 23-year-old ace in waiting, has a locker next to 49-year-old Jamie Moyer. * Wilin Rosario, the 23-year-old catcher of the future, has a locker next to 36-year-old Ramon Hernandez...

Rockies' Troy Tulowitzki played against Jeremy Lin in high school

Five years before one became Tulo and 10 years before Linsanity, Troy Tulowitzki and Jeremy Lin squared off in high school hoops.

Tulo thriving as mentor, motivator to teammates

It was a recurring image throughout the Rockies' first week of Spring Training. Troy Tulowitzki would take batting practice with the club's first group -- players like Todd Helton, Carlos Gonzalez, Michael Cuddyer and Jason Giambi -- but when other position players would retreat into the clubhouse afterward, he'd emerge to take grounders with the young, secondary group.

Rockies, Blake getting to know each other

The Rockies have seen plenty of Casey Blake over the last few years. It's just now that they're starting to get used to seeing him in purple and black.

Rockies' Jason Giambi tells team 'we have to bleed together'

Rockies manager Jim Tracy delivered the traditional opening-of-camp address Monday as the entire team worked out together for the first time. But it was key veteran players who grabbed the spotlight.
