MLB Injury News:
The Colorado Rockies have managed to stay in contention despite the loss of one of their best players. The oft-injured Troy Tulowitzki is currently on the DL with a fractured rib. The injury has, to date, prevented Tulowitzki from swinging a bat. However, he is still making progress.
Ian McCue of MLB.com says Tulowitzki has progressed to being able to play catch as part of his rehab. He wasn't even able to do that in the early days after suffering the rib fracture. Such an injury generally limits a player to rest until the bone and cartilage heal enough for any kind of activity. It could still be a while before Tulowitzki returns to the roster, though. However, his return could help bolster a team looking to make a playoff run.
"Knowing that there's an opportunity there, that other teams are leaving us right there, makes me want to get back out there quicker, no doubt," Tulowitzki said. "But at the same time, I've been here before, so I know when that right time is going to be when I'm healthy. Not rushing this thing."
Tulowitzki suffered the injury two weeks ago while diving on the infield attempting to make a play. He has not played since that particular play. The Rockies have managed to stay within striking distance of the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks during Tulowitzki's absence, though. Colorado is 39-41, just four games back.

At the time of his injury, Tulowitzki was having an All-Star caliber season. And it looks like he will likely be named to this year's All-Star team. He is hitting .347/.413/.635 with 16 home runs. While he will likely be named to the All-Star team, there is little doubt that he won't be playing. Tulowitzki is not expected to come back from his rib fracture until sometime after the break.

Chacin was brilliant again. For the third straight outing, Jhoulys Chacin looked like a pitcher who no one in the National League is excited to face. He looks like a legitimate ace for the Colorado Rockies. In a 4-1 victory, Chacin was an inning away from a complete-game shutout. He wasn't given the opportunity to pitch the 9th, perhaps because that move backfired on Walt Weiss...

The Colorado Rockies are bringing Reid Brignac back to the organization, signing the infielder to a minor league deal.
Brignac will report to Triple-A Colorado Springs, the team said on Thursday.
Colorado picked up Brignac from the Tampa Bay Rays in February, only to designate him for assignment last month after he hit .250 in limited action.

The Colorado Rockies are surprisingly only four games out of first place in their division and appear to be buyers at the trade deadline. They will specifically be looking for pitchers as their pitching staff and bullpen may need a bit of tuning up.

Very little went right for the Colorado Rockies over their nine-game road trip.
Michael Cuddyer, however, managed to get a hit in each of those contests.
Cuddyer will try to establish a franchise record by hitting safely in 24 consecutive games Thursday when the Rockies host the New York Mets in a makeup game.
