Found August 27, 2013 on Nationals Enquirer:
"He just kind of ran out of gas. ... He was great. Made pitches ...kept us right in there." (Davey Johnson on Ross Ohlendorf, via MASN/Postgame presser, 8/27/2013) Nationals 2, Marlins 1: Ross Ohlendorf solid for for five+ despite scaring the hell out of Davey by throwing his fastball ~10 MPH slower in the 6th before giving up HR to Christian Yelic. Ross's line: (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 78 pitches. Fastball topped out at 85 in the 6th). Bullpen (Roark, Storen, Clippard, Soriano) doesn't blow it. Just 7 back of the Reds for final WC spot... Meanwhile, Davey worried about Ross running out of gas, likely will swap Roark and Ross in rotation/bullpen? To sum it up, Ohlendorf allowed 1 run over 5-plus tonight, his ERA dropped to 2.49 & he might've been bumped from the rotation. Tough crowd. — Dan Kolko (@masnKolko) August 28, 2013 Davey indicated tonight that Tanner Roark may start in 5 days and Ohlendorf may head back to the bull...

Span homers using mom's advice

Washington Nationals outfielder Denard Span was struggling at the plate until he spoke to his mom and she helped him with his approach at the plate.

Washington Nationals: Kurt Suzuki’s loss hurts now but will pay dividends in the future

Before trading recently acquired outfielder David DeJesus, the Washington Nationals moved veteran backup catcher Kurt Suzuki to the Oakland Athletics. About a year earlier, the Nationals traded for Suzuki who was a member of the Athletics prior to his deal to the Nationals. Now, Suzuki is on his way back to Oakland. Though General Manager Mike Rizzo recently claimed the Nationals...

Nationals recall Ryan Mattheus

The Washington Nationals have recalled right-hander Ryan Mattheus from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned left-hander Xavier Cedeno to their top farm club. The 29-year-old Mattheus was optioned to Syracuse on Aug. 15 to make room for right-hander Drew Storen. He allowed one earned run in 5 1-3 innings during five appearances with Syracuse. Mattheus is 0-1 with a 6.26 ERA in 23 games...

Cal Ripken Jr. reportedly a possibility to manage Nationals

Davey Johnson will be out as manager of the Washington Nationals after the season, and Cal Ripken Jr. could be a possibility to replace him, according to a report. Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan says Johnson is “not coming back” after two years on the job, which was the plan going back to November. Johnson led […]

Christian Yelich smacks HR, but Marlins fall 2-1 to Nats

WASHINGTON (AP) Ross Ohlendorf pitched neatly into the sixth inning, Ian Desmond had three hits and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Tuesday night. Ohlendorf (3-0) pitched five innings of two-hit ball before Christian Yelich led off the sixth with his second home run, ending the starter's outing. It was Ohlendorf's second start since he was sidelined...

Jayson Werth is Not the Problem (Yet)

Jayson Werth's contract will probably prove onerous for the Nationals down the road, but he has actually been quite good for them in 2013, and has made improvements that show he could be useful for at least the next couple of years.

Is Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper deserving of a 12-year-contract worth roughly $360 million?

Without ever mentioning a client by name, Scott Boras insinuated to reporters that he will soon seek a 12-year contract extension for Washington National Bryce Harper. The 20-year-old Harper signed a 5-year contract worth $9.9 million with Washington after being selected first overall in 2010. “I’m more into 12-year deals for young players,” said Boras, 60, who represents roughly...

Nationals are trying to trade Danny Espinosa

The Nationals have not decided if they will call up second baseman Danny Espinosa on Sunday when rosters can expand. A baseball source familiar with Espinosa believes he will not play another big league game this year. The person pointed out that Espinosa has 96 strikeouts in 287 at-bats for Triple-A Syracuse. Those numbers don't help the Nationals who are trying to trade Espinosa...

MLB rumors: Scott Boras talking extension for Bryce Harper?

Bryce Harper's agent, Scott Boras, was in attendance at the Washington Nationals game last night.  He answered questions from the media ranging from Danny Espinosa to Harper's contract.  Of course, with Boras anything said as a joke must be taken as a possible truth.  So when he discussed an extension for Harper, people listened. Dan Kolko of MASN says that Boras...

Marlins drop rain-delayed contest to surging Nationals

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Ian Desmond had three hits, including the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning, and the Washington Nationals kept pace on the fringes of the playoff race Wednesday night with a rain-delayed 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins. Desmond also scored a run and stole a base, and Jayson Werth homered to straightaway center field for the Nationals, who have won seven...

Marlins fall to Nationals 4-3, have lost 7 of 8

Giancarlo Stanton batted cleanup for the first time this season. He hit a home run and rattled Nationals Park with a foul ball that might still be rolling among the city's tourist attractions had it not clanged loudly off the facade of the middle deck in foul territory. But the homer was a solo shot, and the mighty foul ball was followed by a swing-and-miss for strike three...

Buy or Sell: Dan Haren and Ricky Nolasco

NotThatBobJames Buy or Sell isn’t just about picking up players to add to your roster. It’s also about finding players on your roster that have been collecting dust and getting them back out there. Let’s take a look at a couple of pitchers you might have on your roster, but have forgotten about. Dan Haren got off to a slow start for the Nationals this year, is it time to...

Desmond Powers Nats To Damp Victory Over Marlins

It was muggy, muddy, and for the second night in a row, much closer of a game than it probably could have been. But once again, despite the circumstances, the Washington Nationals (67-65) came away with a win over the Miami Marlins (49-82). Manager Davey Johnson described the 4-3 victory as, “a nice ballgame, since we won it,” but acknowledged that the team still made mistakes...

Scott Boras wants a 12-year deal for Bryce Harper

Scott Boras tipped his hand a little bit – if you can consider it anything shocking – by saying  he wants a 12-year deal for Bryce Harper whenever that time comes. If you were expecting anything fair from Boras on the topic then you were being extremely naive. The guy is here to destroy the game of baseball’s financial cash flow sheets with the green heading in one direction...
