The Philadelphia Phllies have placed starting pitcher Roy Halladay on the 15-day DL with a strained right lat muscle, and he will be out for six to eight weeks. That would put him out of commission for the Phillies until mid to late July, which is absolutely not what this team needed at this point in time. Halladay left Saturday's start against the Cardinals in the first inning after experiencing soreness in his shoulder. This is bad for the Phillies...very bad. Vance Worley is already out with elbow soreness, but threw a bullpen session today, and experienced no pain. Worley's visit with Dr James Andrews went well, and he won't need Tommy John surgery (well, yet). But Worley isn't ready to go yet, and the Phillies are going to need to replace Halladay. One option is Roy Oswalt, whose odds I handicapped at signing with the Phillies (and five other teams) earlier today. The options to replace Halladay in AAA Lehigh Valley are largely veteran sludge that can't succ...

Halladay to have shoulder checked

Roy Halladay’s sore right shoulder is scheduled to undergo an examination Tuesday. The Philadelphia Phillies are worried about the health of the veteran pitcher. “Anytime you have an injury, you have a concern, no matter who it is,” Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said Monday. “We've been through these things before. [Vance] Worley, [Roy] Oswalt...

Roy Halladay to miss 6-8 weeks with right lat strain

Roy Halladay will go on disabled list and miss 6-8 weeks. Halladay, 4-5 with a 3.98 ERA, will be replaced on the roster by catcher Eric Kratz. There has been a lot of talk about Halladay’s velocity. I saw him on opening day in Pittsburgh and the Pirates fans talked about it in our area, but I dismissed it. Halladay went on to pitch a 1-0 shutout victory on opening day in Pittsburgh...

Roy Halladay Out 6-8 Weeks

Roy Halladay began the year battling diminished velocity and has struggled to pitch at a Halladay-esque level on a consistent basis. On Sunday, he left his start after just two innings, and after being evaluated today, the Phillies placed him on the disabled list with a strained latissimus dorsi muscle. On the one hand, at least it’s not an elbow or shoulder injury that sidelines...

Needing a Doctor: Halladay leaves game, Phillies drop finale

As far as first innings go, you couldn't draw up more of a disaster. A nearly insurmountable lead, another rough start for a top-of-the-line pitcher and the opposing ace on the mound. It was clear today wasn't going to be the Phillies day. The Cardinals took all the momentum in one swing, and the Phillies got more news they didn't need to hear. It was all part of a...

This is a huge blow to a team looking to charge back up to the top of the standings. The Phillies must be players in the Roy Oswalt sweepstakes in order to sure up their staff. It is being reported by...

Injuries and Questions Plaguing the Phillies

As I am sure many of you are already aware, Roy Halladay has been placed on the DL with a right latissimus dorsi strain. His projected time for recovery is 6-8 weeks. The good news is that the strain is a Grade ½ which means he just needs rest for the muscle to heal. The bad news is he will be gone probably until August. Yikes. In regards to how long this has been going on, pitching...

On this day in 2010, perfection from Doc Halladay

On this day two years ago, the Philadelphia Flyers were riding their magical postseason run to the Stanley Cup Finals, their first appearance in the final round since being swept by the Detroit Red Wings in 1997. The Flyers were hot, taking out the second seeded New Jersey Devils in round one, followed by the comeback of all comebacks against the Boston Bruins, and a quick series...

Molina's slam ends Phillies series on high note

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Roy Halladay gave up a grand slam to Yadier Molina in an abbreviated two-inning start before leaving with shoulder soreness, and the St. Louis Cardinals avoided a four-game sweep with an 8-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The Phillies were looking for their first four-game sweep in St. Louis in 99 years. Adam Wainwright (4-5) allowed a run on seven...

Career Day for Wigginton Leads to Phillies Win

After a rough day on Sunday with a loss to the Cardinals and Roy Halladay pulled early due to shoulder soreness, the Phillies needed a serious lift. Seeing Carlos Ruiz scratched from today’s line-up with a sore hamstring was also not the good news this team was looking for. But with Cole Hamels on the mound, you had to think the Phillies had a shot against the Mets. Hamels delivered...
