The latest rumors on Roy Oswalt suggest the Cardinals, Rangers, Red Sox, Nationals, Indians and Brewers are in the mix for the right-hander. Oswalt wasn't interested in joining the Tigers, but the Cardinals and Red Sox have also made him offers and the other clubs appear to be monitoring the situation. Here are today's Oswalt rumors: The Red Sox offered Oswalt about $5MM, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports. The Red Sox don't seem interested in signing pitchers to long-term contracts, as Olney points out. There's some debate in the Rangers' front office over whether Oswalt is necessary given Texas' existing starting pitching depth, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick tweets.

A three-time All-Star who has pitched in the big leagues for a decade is interested in joining the Rangers and Texas would be crazy not to take advantage of it. Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Roy Oswalt is a free agent and a source close to the Phillies said he wants...

Vote: Would You Rather See Roy Oswalt or Edwin Jackson Become a Member of the Red Sox?

There's been a lot of rumors floating around regarding the Red Sox and their pursuit of starting pitching. Two separate reports surfaced on Wednesday, one indicating that the Sox have made an offer to Roy Oswalt, while the other indicated that they made an offer to fellow free-agent Edwin Jackson. The latter, by ESPN's Jim Bowden, said that the Sox actually prefer Jackson...

The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to sign veteran righthander Roy Oswalt to a contract, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reported, citing a major league source. The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers were...

Does Roy Oswalt Make Sense For The Cardinals?

Investing in Defense

Waiting to hear from the Big Snob -- I mean, um, Roy Oswalt -- is at least distracting us from noticing that the Sox have no official shortstop.Which means we have to look at the Man Most Likely, Mr. Nick Punto.I googled "Nick Punto defense" and found --Over the Monster:Punto is a fine defensive shortstop. Baseball Prospectus's Fielding Runs Above Average lists him...

The Big Domino

Prince Fielder is out of the NL Central on a ridiculous nine-year deal, which leaves precious few high-level free agents on the market. Two of them -- Roy Oswalt and Edwin Jackson -- are pitchers that certain bloggers wearing a Penguins shirt while sitting in a lab in North Carolina would like to see the Pirates show some interest in. Unfortunately, I don't see any way that the...
