Danny Duffy struck out seven in three perfect innings, helping the Kansas City Royals to a 7-6 victory over the San Diego Padres in the spring finale for each team.
Duffy is one of Kansas City's top prospects.
Terry Evans and Mario Sisson hit consecutive homers in the sixth inning for the Royals.
Veteran right-hander Matt Palmer was called in from Triple-A Tucson to start for the Padres and worked four strong innings, allowing two hits and an unearned run.
The Padres host the Los Angeles Dodgers in their first regular-season game on Thursday.
The Royals open the season Friday night at the Los Angeles Angels.
