Errors by Alberto Gonzalez and Mike Olt in a three-pitch span allowed the tiebreaking run to score in the 10th inning, giving the Kansas City Royals a 7-6 victory over the slumping Texas Rangers on Sunday.
With the score 6-6, Michael Kirkman (0-2) walked Billy Butler leading off the 10th. Gonzalez, who entered in the ninth when Elvis Andrus left because of a sore shoulder, booted a routine grounder by Salvador Perez as pinch-runner Eric Hosmer advanced,
Jeff Francoeur took a ball and then grounded to third. Olt, who made his major league debut Thursday, threw the ball into right field as Hosmer came home.
Texas dropped to 13-15 since the start of July.
Greg Holland (4-3) threw 46 pitches in two innings, working around three hits and two walks.

Roy Oswalt has a 5.82 ERA. Roy Oswalt doesn't like his role. Roy Oswalt needs to take a number and get in line.
The Texas Rangers have more pressing concerns than his ego.
The Rangers have lost two straight games, during which starters Derek Holland and Yu Darvish turned in alarming clunkers. With two-fifths of the Opening Day rotation lost to season-ending surgeries -- Colby...
Derek Holland gave up two runs right away in the 1st inning, and I tried not to panic. Holland believes he’s pitching well, and I waited for him to show me that.
I’m still waiting.
OK, so Dutch did have a few good innings. But they were few and far between. Between innings when he was giving up runs. And home runs. It was just not Derek’s day. And the interview...
The lowly Kansas City Royals have shaken up their staff by firing first base coach Doug Sisson.
The Royals have the worst record in the American League at 44-61.
Sisson joined the Royals staff on Oct. 21, 2010. He was their minor league field coordinator from 2008-10.
Rusty Kuntz, who was a special assistant to the general manager, will take over Sisson's duties.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Slumping infielder Yuniesky Betancourt has been cut by the Kansas City Royals after beginning the season as the team's starting second baseman.
Betancourt was designated for assignment Sunday following Kansas City's 7-6 victory over the Texas Rangers in 10 innings. To replace him, the Royals selected the contract of infielder Tony Abreu from Triple...
As I listened to Dayton Moore’s interview with Soren Petro of 810 WHB last week I found many things hard to stomach. For one thing Petro’s questioning was so timid that it started a #ToughQuestionsForDayton hashtag on twitter that sarcastically made fun of him. If we can’t askMoorethe hard questions at this point, when will we? Second, I hated hearingMooremove the goal line...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Josh Hamilton drove in two runs, Scott Feldman won his sixth straight decision and the Texas Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-2 on Saturday night.
Feldman (6-6) worked into the eighth inning and became the first pitcher in 29 years to win six consecutive decisions after starting the season 0-6. Doyle Alexander did it in 1983 with the New York Yankees...

Earlier today, the Giants acquired left-handed reliever Jose Mijares from the Kansas City Royals via waivers. The Giants simply claimed him off waivers and didn’t have to give up anything in return, so they basically got him for free. Mijares, 27, doesn’t hit free agency until 2015, and he’s actually having a very good season: he’s tossed 38.2 innings across 51 appearances...
