ANAHEIM (AP) -- Looking to string a pair of wins together to open their West Coast road trip, the Kansas City Royals have to be feeling good about their chances with the seemingly unbeatable Jeremy Guthrie on the mound.
Guthrie will try to extend his franchise-record streak of consecutive starts without a loss Tuesday night against a Los Angeles Angels team that has been in a rut offensively.
Kansas City (19-16) had dropped three in a row and six of seven before opening its nine-game trip with an 11-4 victory in Anaheim on Monday.
Billy Butler broke out of a 4-for-35 slump with the second five-hit game of his career and five RBIs as the Royals reached a double-digit run total for the first time since April 5.
"I knew I had been getting closer, but it's just one game," said Butler, who is 6 for 13 with two homers lifetime against Tuesday's scheduled starter Jason Vargas. "You've got to come out and do it consistently. Hopefully I'm on that upward st...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. It's the debate Royals fans and Royals players as well -- love to have:
Should the Royals move the fences in once again at spacious Kauffman Stadium?
The discussion takes on some added meaning this season no doubt because of the Royals' power shortage. They are last in the American League in home runs with 25, with just 10 of those coming at Kauffman...
The Kansas City Royals have released right-handed pitcher Dan Wheeler of his obligations to their organization. Struggling for their Triple-A minor league affiliate, he will provide bullpen depth for any team that takes him on, but nothing more. But to do that, he needs to latch on somewhere else, which isn’t a guarantee.
The post Kansas City Royals Release Pitcher Dan Wheeler...
For several years now the Kansas City Royals have had one of the better farm systems in Major League Baseball. Most teams should be so lucky. The Royals haven’t been able to translate this advantage into success on the field and there would seem to be one very good reason for this.
You can’t win the World Series with the AAA Storm Chasers. It takes time to scout and develop...
Kansas City Royals veteran Fred White announced his retirement Tuesday after 40 years with the organization, most recently as director of broadcast services and the franchise's alumni.
White was a sports anchor at a Topeka, Kan., television station and the voice of Kansas State athletics before joining the Royals, where he spent 25 years in the broadcast booth. He continued...
Longtime Kansas City Royals broadcaster Fred White died Wednesday of complications from cancer. He was 76.
The Royals were informed of White's passing by his son, Joe. White died in hospice one day after the team announced his retirement after 40 years working for the organization.
White was the sports anchor for Topeka's WIBW-TV and broadcast Kansas State athletics before...
ANAHEIM, Calif. There wasnt much denying the fact baseball was where Mike Moustakas bread was buttered. It was his ticket and just about everyone knew it in and around Chatsworth high school where Moustakas played his high school ball.
That ticket hadnt been punched yet when Moustakas, then a junior for the Chancellors, needed to rethink things.
In his addition to his exploits...
It’s week two of the I70 Baseball Royals Power Rankings, and to say this week didn’t go well would be an understatement. The Royals defense was atrocious and their hitting and pitching weren’t too far behind. Let’s take a look at the power rankings through May 12.
#5 Ervin Santana- (Previously: #2) Santana saw his ERA “balloon” to 2.79 with a couple of mediocre starts...
After a strong start to 2013, the Kansas City Royals ended last week losing a three in a row to the injury plagued New York Yankees. The Royals finished the week losing six of seven and find themselves two games behind the first place Indians with a record of 18-16.
In the first edition of Royals Weekend Rundown, let’s recap the week that was shall we?

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Billy Butler broke out of a severe slump with five hits and five RBIs, and the Kansas City Royals kept Joe Blanton winless in eight starts this season with an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night.
Butler's hit total tied his career high, established on July 27, 2009, at Baltimore. The designated hitter has three games with five or...
Albert Pujols, Howie Kendrick, Josh Hamilton and Mike Trout all homered off Jeremy Guthrie and the Los Angeles Angels handed the shell-shocked right-hander his first loss in a span of 19 starts with a 6-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.
Hamilton, the Angels' right fielder, made his fourth start as a designated hitter after being taken out of Monday night...

Though it's only mid-May, few could have guessed Kansas City would have a better record than the Los Angeles Angels, who have a payroll roughly $60 million more than the Royals'.
That may not be the case much longer, though, if Kansas City can't snap out of its funk as it begins a nine-game road trip Monday night against Los Angeles.
The Royals (18-16) have finished...
