Infielder Yuniesky Betancourt is off the disabled list and back in the Royals' lineup Friday night in the 2-0 victory over the Athletics. It did not take long for Betancourt to produce as his first-inning double scored Alex Gordon with the initial Kansas City run. Betancourt scored the second run on Mike Moustakas' single. Betancourt, who missed the previous 26 games with a high right ankle sprain, started at second base and batted second. It was Betancourt's 13th start at second base, but only the third time he hit in the second slot. Betancourt went 10-for-23 (.435) in six minor league rehab games with Class AA Northwest Arkansas and Class AAA Omaha, where he hit .625 (5-for-8) with a home run and two RBIs in two games. In 15 games before going on the disabled list, Betancourt hit .280 with four doubles, a home run and three RBIs.

The Time Has Come for the Royals to put Aaron Crow in the Rotation

As the Royals’ season began, many personnel, analysts, and fans across the nation saw Kansas City as a team on the cusp of a breakthrough. Possessing a team with mounds of young talent—Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Alcides Escobar, Salvador Perez, Johnny Giavotella, Danny Duffy, Alex Gordon, Billy Butler—Kansas City had finally identified a core on which it could build a constant...

“Tiny Tim” bless us, every one

After the free agent signing of relief pitcher Jose Mijares in the off-season, many fans of the Kansas City Royals thought that the young arm of lefty Tim Collins may be in trouble. Mijares brought in for his left-handed specialty which was the job of Collins in 2011, may be able to light a fire under Collins and make him step his game up.  Collins may have taken the signing a...

Royals Name Fletcher and Ventura as Blue Rocks of the Month

Courtesy of the Blue Rocks director of media communications John Sadak, the Kansas City Royals named Brian Fletcher and Vordano Ventura Blue Rocks Player and Pitcher of the Month for May, respectively. Brian batted a team best .327 with an .828 OPS on the month while Ventura posted two wins, a 2.17 ERA and 31 strikeouts against six walks. Since I didn't start blogging here...

Paulino shuts down A's as Royals win 2-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Felipe Paulino kept the scuffling Athletics at bay for six innings Friday night, and the Kansas City Royals' bullpen handled the rest in a 2-0 victory that gave Oakland its season-worst ninth straight loss. Yuniesky Betancourt came off the disabled list to provide an RBI double in the first, and Mike Moustakas added an RBI blooper to left later in the...

‘Our Time’, for real this time

I know it is hard to believe, but the Kansas City Royals have actually been a very competitive team for the last month and a half. Since starting 3-14 they’ve gone 19-15, against a much tougher stretch of competition than they’re preparing to face. Even at that pace they’d finish the season with 84 victories at the end of the year. In theory, if they do continue playing the...

Errors costly as Royals get blown out by A's

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The struggling Oakland Athletics took advantage of some bumbling Kansas City defense to pile up their most offense in more than three weeks, helping them snap a nine-game losing streak with a 9-3 victory over the Royals on Saturday. Brandon McCarthy (4-3) came off the disabled list to throw six innings, Jemile Weeks reached base four times and Josh Reddick...

Royals-A's preview

(AP) -- While the Kansas City Royals are surging, the Oakland Athletics are doing nothing of the kind - and their bats aren't inspiring much confidence in changing that. The A's will try to get their offense going in an effort to avoid a 10th straight loss Saturday at Kansas City. Oakland (22-30) has dropped nine in a row for the first time since a 10-game slide May 30-June...
