Lorenzo Cain has missed 78 games this year, and he probably will miss another Friday, maybe more.

Cain suffered a strained right hamstring in the 10th inning of the Kansas City Royals' 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins and had to leave the game. Cain was hurt while diving for Alex Casilla's double to lead off the inning. Denard Span, the next batter, doubled home Casilla with the winning run.

While Cain's injury is not believed to be serious, he will be examined further Friday in Kansas City. The Royals open a nine-game homestand that night against the Los Angeles Angels.

"Injuries or stuff just seem to find me this year," Cain said.

He was beaned Tuesday but remained in the game and played Wednesday.

Cain's departure in the 10th inning left the Royals scrambling. Jeff Francoeur, who pinch-hit for David Lough in the ninth, shifted from right to center. Jarrod Dyson, another outfielder, is unable to throw, so he was not used.

Manager Ned Yost moved first baseman Eric Hosmer to right field. Hosmer's big-league outfield experience had been two games in right in interleague play. Backup catcher Brayan Pena played first with Hosmer in right.

Look for the Royals to bring up a spare outfielder Friday unless Cain is ready to play immediately.
