In lockstep with Tim Brown’s piece at Yahoo! that states the Phillies will enter a “partial rebuild”, word from the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo came out today that the Kansas City Royals have begun internally discussing acquiring Chase Utley. On Thursday, we looked at prospective matches for a hypothetical Utley trade, citing the Yankees, Orioles, and Blue Jays as teams that may be interested. No rumors as to who the Royals would offer but the Royals do have three Baseball America Top 100 prospects in their system: RHP Kyle Zimmer (24), OF Bubba Starling (35), and RHP Yordano Ventura (85). That probably be a good place to start the discussion.  Starling and Ventura have struggled this season while Zimmer has good K totals (10.4 / 9 IP) but has had some bad luck (5.40 ERA). In addition to the Utley rumors, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com believes that third baseman Michael Young may be a good fit for the Red Sox. Bradford reported that while no “single conversation” has happened yet between...

  • The problem is not Utley or Young. The HUGE problem is Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and an awful bullpen. Utley and Young are productive. The bullpen has Rich Dubee as a pitching coach. The rest of the offense has Steve Henderson as a hitting coach. Money wasted on all and the Philly fans have to pay for the mistakes. People aren't going to the games now...
  • Still drawing 38K to a game. Who says people are not going to Phillies games? Wally Joiner is also a hitting coach. Utley and Young are free at the end of the season. If the Phils can get something for them, do it.

Dodgers rumors: Phillies’ Chase Utley on LA’s radar

Despite their disappointing start to the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly interested in upgrading their team this summer. In an effort to do so, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Dodgers could target Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley. It’s not known at this point if the Dodgers have contacted the Phillies regarding Utley. It’s...

Heyman: Dodgers Interested in Utley, Young

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Chase Utley is firmly on the radar of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Heyman states that it is unknown whether or not the Dodgers have contacted the Phillies about Utley and that Ruben Amaro Jr. is not anxious to trade Utley despite the fact that he is headed to free agency. The Phillies would received a compensatory pick for Utley if they made a qualifying...

Trading Chase Utley Should Not Spell the End of Phillies Career

The Philadelphia Phillies stood atop the proverbial baseball mountain in 2008, captained by a group of homegrown, core athletes led by second baseman and fan-favorite Chase Utley, and it certainly feels like a long time ago. Two years earlier, legendary Phillies' broadcaster Harry Kalas had dubbed Utley "The Man," and...

Phillies rumors: Chase Utley is not 'untouchable'

July. That time of the year when the weather starts to really heat up, as well as the trade rumors and player movement. It's a chance for a hot free-agent-to-be athlete to basically audition for contending teams for a chance to use your talents for something other than for a losing effort. Question is, are the Phillies one of those 'losing effort' teams? According...

Report: Red Sox Haven’t Engaged in ‘Single Conversation’ With Phillies About Trade for Michael Young

The Red Sox could eventually kick the tires on Michael Young. They just haven’t done so yet. The New York Post reported that the Red Sox would be interested in trading for Young if the Phillies made him available, adding that a source reportedly said, “They want him badly.” But according to WEEI.com, the Red Sox have not engaged in “a single conversation” with the Phillies...

Analyzing the A’s Supposed Need for the Phillies’ Chase Utley

Recently, BSN’s Brandon McClintock and myself put together a list of potential starting pitching options for the A’s as the July 31st trade deadline approaches – but this time, let’s talk about middle infield help. There’s no doubt that the play of Jed Lowrie has been a highlight of the A’s offense all season long – he’s hitting over .300 and has managed to stay healthy...

Red Sox rumors: Phillies’ Michael Young a fit for Boston?

To this point, the Boston Red Sox have yet to engage in a “single conversation” with the Philadelphia Phillies regarding third baseman Michael Young. Still, a source told Rob Bradford of WEEI.com that Young could find himself on the Red Sox’ radar in the coming weeks. There has been recent speculation that the Red Sox want Young “badly.” While Boston is still...

Should the Royals chase Utley?

by John Viril— The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo reported that the Kansas City Royals have internally discussed acquiring Philadelphia 2B Chase Utley. While possibly obtaining a 5-time N.L.All-Star and 4-time silver slugger winner should excite any Royals fan, I am not sure he is worth the cost. Obviously, getting Chase Utley would be a boon for a Royals lineup that has struggled...

Report: Red Sox Interested in Acquiring Michael Young If Phillies Make Veteran Available

Will Middlebrooks’ struggles and subsequent demotion may have the Red Sox looking outside the organization for help. The Red Sox would be very interested in acquiring Michael Young if the Phillies place the veteran third baseman on the trading block, according to the New York Post. An industry source reportedly said that the Red Sox “want him badly,” in reference to Young,...

REPORT: Red Sox Want Michael Young Badly

Is Young Headed To The Hub?Not that we like to gloat, but FenwayNation did advocate for a Michael Young—not Jonathan Papelbon—deal with the Phillies in an article back on June 24th. Gee, maybe BenCher and the Baseball Ops boys actually read us. Nah. Anyway, according to George A. King III of the New York Post, the Red Sox "badly" want Young to solidify third base for...

Michael Young of the Phillies: Red Sox "Want Him Badly; Yankees Interested

According to a report in the New York Post, the Phillies have two teams interested in acquiring Michael Young: the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees. The Yankees and Red Sox have both been depleted by injury in their infields and Young is a versatile option. That could...

Runs on runs on runs. (PHOTO: AP) Whew. That was fun. The Phillies put up three runs in each of the first two innings , and kept piling it on en route to a 16-1 thrashing of the Dodgers Friday night. The offensive explosion is the first time this season that the Phillies put up double digit runs in a game. Each Phillie in the starting lineup had a hit, including six with multiple...
