The Kansas City Royals will not win the American League Central this year. They won't even come close.

However, Kansas City will have a major say on whether the Detroit Tigers or Chicago White Sox win the division.

The Royals wrap up a three-game series Wednesday against the White Sox. They have seven games left with the Tigers, including the final three games of the season at Kauffman Stadium.

If the White Sox fail to hold off the Tigers, they could blame the Royals. For whatever reason, they have not fared well against Kansas City this season, losing 11 of 17.

"There is no answer for that," Royals manager Ned Yost said of his club's record against the White Sox. "We've played good against these guys. I don't have an answer for it outside of we've just played good games against them."

The Royals beat White Sox ace Chris Sale 3-0 on Wednesday night. Three of Sale's seven losses this season are against Kansas City.

The Royals won six straight against the White Sox from Aug. 8-Sept. 7.

Kansas City is 4-7 against Detroit but swept the Tigers in a three-game series at the end of August in Kauffman Stadium.

"We didn't play Detroit good early in the year, and the last couple of times we've played them, we played them good," Yost said. "I think we are getting better as a team. But I don't know why we can play so well against these guys and go 1-7 against Seattle. I don't know. It's just what it is."
