The Kansas City Royals have picked up veteran pitcher Jeff Suppan, who failed to stick with the San Francisco Giants in spring training.

Suppan signed a minor league contract and will report to Class AAA Omaha, MLB.com reported Monday.

The 36-year-old right-hander went 3-8 with a 5.06 ERA in 30 games with Milwaukee and St. Louis last year. He was invited to spring training by the Giants but released March 29.

In 16 major league seasons, Suppan is 138-143 with a 4.69 ERA in 442 games (411 starts) with Boston, Arizona, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Milwaukee. He played for the Royals from late 1998 through the 2002 season.
