Losing is always tough. Wasting four home runs in an 11-8 setback to St. Louis felt particularly galling to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The loss gave the visitors a three-game sweep in Kauffman Stadium just a week after KC took two out of three on the Cardinals turf. ''It's real disappointing any time you drop three straight,'' said Mike Moustakas, the second-year third baseman who hit two of the home runs and had three RBIs. ''We played good baseball today and battled back, but we just couldn't get there at the end.'' Carlos Beltran had a three-run home run and Matt Holliday and Allen Craig each drove in two runs for the Cardinals, who had scored just eleven runs their three previous games but amassed 41 hits and 30 runs in routing the Royals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Starter Jonathan Sanchez and reliever Tim Collins (4-2) combined to give the Cardinals nine walks on Sunday. And while two of the walks were intentional, that ju...

Could it be déjà vu for the 2012 Cardinals and trading?

Long-time St .Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is gone, but several of his club’s key needs from 2011 have resurfaced this season. So might the method to address them. La Russa had made public his frustration with the man who had previously been the organization’s top prospect. Of course, I am referring to outfielder Colby Rasmus. After some rough times, Rasmus was sent...

Is Ned Yost Giving the Royals the Best Chance to Win?

There is something strange going on inside of Kauffman Stadium. The Royals haven’t played great baseball this year and the biggest concern coming into the season was starting pitching. Yet surprisingly, the Royals have been saved by their pitching staff recently and doomed by their lack of offense. I am an avid listener of some local sports radio stations and I constantly hear...

La Russa mulling over NL roster for All-Star game

Tony La Russa is already thinking about which players he might add to the National League roster for next month's All-Star game. La Russa retired after leading St. Louis to the World Series title last year. But Commissioner Bud Selig announced in January that La Russa would become the second retired manager to lead a team in the Midsummer Classic. La Russa says he has spent...

St. Louis Cardinals set to begin second surge as All-Star break approaches

The St. Louis Cardinals began their World Series title defense in impressive fashion, going 14-8 in April and leading the NL Central division by three games over the Cincinnati Reds. But then the season quickly took a turn for the worse as several key players got hurt and the Cardinals lost the division lead. However, the Cardinals looked a lot more like the team of April this week...

Lynn's All-Star hopes take hit

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Lance Lynn had hoped Sunday's start against the Royals would be his first of two appearances at Kauffman Stadium in the next few weeks. But after allowing a season-high six earned runs in 5 13 innings in the Cardinals' 11-6 win over the Royals on a steamy Midwest afternoon, Lynn might soon be able to make other plans for the upcoming All-Star break. ...

From the Opponent: Royals vs. Rays Preview

EDIT An edit is never a good way to start off an article, but what can you do? Sometimes you simply "F" up and have to own it.... In eager anticipation to attend a pre-release screening of the movie Magic Mike tonight, I had the article ready to go but forgot to publish it.
