Shortstop Ruben Tejada is ready to begin a rehab assignment later this week for the GCL Mets, according to Terry Collins. Collins said Tejada will work his way up to Triple-A Las Vegas before completing his rehab and being activated. Tejada was placed on the DL on May 30 with a right quadriceps strain suffered while reaching for a foul popup. The Mets manager punted a question asking how he would fit in with Omar Quintanilla now starting and playing productively. Tejada was in a horrendous slump at the time of his injury and was batting .209/.267/.262 for the season.

Culinary all-stars set to shine at 2013 MLB All-Star game

NEW YORK - The All-Star Game serves as a crown jewel showcase for baseball’s best talent as well as the host ballpark. For Citi Field, the Mets’ home since 2009 and the site of this year’s Midsummer Classic on July 16, the diverse and delicious food at the park represents a highlight of any in-game experience. Even if the baseball isn’t always at its best in Queens (ahem...

Ike Davis Outraged After Being Bypassed, Alderson Had To Calm Him Down

This morning on WFAN, Craig Carton was ripping Ike Davis over a report from a source who told him that Davis went ballistic in the clubhouse after the Mets opted to promote Zack Lutz instead of him. “How can they promote him over ****ing me,” he reportedly screamed at manager Wally Backman.. He became such a distraction, that Backman called Sandy Alderson to intervene and calm...

Mets prospect Cory Mazzoni flies under the radar

The Mets have just finished playing eight road games against the Braves and Phillies and went 5-3 in the process. Ordinarily this would be cause for celebration but in a season mismanaged nearly all the way around, it hardly merits a “woo-hoo!” With fans joining management in punting the 2013 season, instead we look ahead to the future. Our first glimpse of Zack Wheeler has...

Collins Says Quintanilla Will Remain Starter At SS When Tejada Comes Back

The question has been asked and answered… Mets manager Terry Collins spoke to reporters today and said that Ruben Tejada will have to earn back his starting shortstop job when he returns from the disabled list. Unless he can do that, Omar Quintanilla has earned the right to keep the job, Collins said. “Based on what we’ve seen right now, Ruben’s gotta earn it back,” Collins...

David Wright To Rest Against Rockies

It wasn’t as if David Wright was going to challenge Cal Ripken in the first place. Wright will be out of the New York Mets’ lineup tonight in Colorado for their make up game against the Rockies. There was speculation Wright might lobby manager Terry Collins to keep him in the lineup. Despite being on a tear lately, Wright knew he needed a night off and being the DH in Chicago...

Marcum Hurls Eight Scoreless In Mets 3-0 Win

Wow, Shaun Marcum must be feeling like the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders. The righthander tossed eight scoreless innings as the Mets beat the White Sox by the score of 3-0 tonight at U.S. Cellular Field. Marcum was solid all night long allowing just four hits and walking two with two strikeouts. He had some great defense behind him including some spectacular...

It’s Shaun Marcum Day!

Nope, I couldn’t write the headline with a straight face. I tried, but Shaun Marcum’s start in his first year with the New York Mets is reaching historic proportions. To the point of being humorous if it weren’t so aggravating. Marcum, who has had several strong relief performances, but generally has pitched in bad luck and an inability to avoid the big inning, will be going...

Collins Will Adjust Rotation If Harvey Starts All Star Game

Pitching coach Dan Warthen told Mike Puma of the New York Post that he would adjust the rotation to allow Matt Harvey to start the All Star Game if Bruce Bochy gives him the nod. “That is 20 days away, a lot could change,” Collins said, referring to postponements that could alter the rotation. “But if he gets picked to start the game, I would think we would adjust it.” All...

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, The New York Mets have traded OF Collin Cowgill to the Los Angeles Angels for minor league OF Kyle Johnson. Cowgill was acquired last December from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for third baseman Jefry Marte and was appointed the club’s opening day center fielder this year, but never got a prolonged opportunity to play despite an impressive...

Byrd’s Late Two-Run Jack Propels Mets To 3-2 Win Over The Rockies

Well, how about that? This was an excellent team effort for the win tonight in Colorado and it wrapped up an excellent road trip for our New York Mets. Whether these games will matter down the line or not, it’s nice to see our team banding together and playing some decent baseball for an extended period of time. It was Jeremy Hefner on the mound tonight — and surprise, surprise…he...

With the Mets trailing 2-1 and a runner on, Byrd drove a fastball from reliever Matt Belisle (4-5) into the left-center seats. That was about the...
