Carlos Ruiz had three hits and three RBIs and rookie Cesar Hernandez reached base four times scored twice and drove in two runs as the Philadelphia Phillies rode a six-run first inning to a 10-5 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night. Roy Halladay was in line for the win for the Phillies but couldn’t get through the fifth inning after walking four straight batters and committing a throwing error. In his fourth start since coming off the disabled list on Aug. 25 Halladay gave up five runs — four earned — and four hits striking out six and walking a season-high five in 4 2-3 innings.

Storyline: Grab Bag of Tricks for the Philadelphia Phillies

Using 20/20 hindsight, players were available on the market for the Philadelphia Phillies besides Mike Adams. There were other third basemen, outfielders and relievers. Why didn’t Ruben Amaro Jr. corral them? TAL’S HANDY CAPS Welcome, Newcomers: This article represents the thinking of a baseball man in my opinion. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar...

Oh Roy Halladay, Where Art Thou?

Roy Halladay has made three starts since rejoining the rotation following a DL stint due to shoulder surgery.  He's been okay, but not good.  His ERA and WHIP are mediocre, but the other numbers are worse (more BB than K, 4 HBP, % strikes thrown).  Also, he's only averaging about 87 mph with his fastball.Three Start Total:Pitches - 267Strikes - 160 (60%)Innings - 17Walks...

Halladay failing to command 3 of 4 pitches

Roy Halladay is running out of time to figure things out. Halladay who on Thursday starts for the fourth time since returning from shoulder surgery on Aug. 25 has made the Phillies’ eventual decision on his future no easier these last few weeks. He’s tossed two quality starts in three tries but there wasn’t much quality in the last one. Last Wednesday vs. the Nationals Halladay...

Kyle Kendrick's amusing attempt to kick a fair ball foul (VIDEO)

Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick tried one of the oldest tricks in the book but — considering over 31,000 fans and one eagle-eyed umpire inside Nationals Park were watching the whole thing  — it's no surprise he didn't get away with it. On a Steve Lombardozzi bunt, Kendrick deliberately — and obviously — kicks the slow-rolling ball foul and, although his planned strategy...

Ruben Amaro Jr. Gets Endorsement From Phillies President David Montgomery

Phillies President David Montgomery has not said very much since the dismissal of Charlie Manuel as Phillies manager last month. Plenty of fans since then have placed blame on the Phillies' General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. But Montgomery is not considering any changes. He almost appears to have missed the...

Carlos Ruiz Continues Hot Streak in Phillies Victory

Photo Credit: Andrew Gillen Roy Halladay was originally slated to take the mound for last night's ballgame against the San Diego Padres. However, 'flu-like symptoms' led to Cliff Lee jumping up a day and ultimately earning the Phillies their first win of the series. Tonight, Doc felt good enough to...

Kendrick loses again, Phillies fall to Nationals

Kyle Kendrick's winless streak continued just like it started, with a short outing and a loss in Washington. Kendrick dropped his fifth straight decision and allowed all of the Nationals' runs as the Philadelphia Phillies lost 6-1 Friday night in the opener of a three-game set. ''I just didn't do my job tonight,'' Kendrick said. ''I didn'...

Lee, Galvis lift Phillies over Padres 4-2

Only one team in the National League has hit fewer home runs than the Phillies and San Diego Padres – the Miami Marlins – but on Wednesday night in South Philly the two light-hitting lineups took advantage of the balmy conditions at home run-friendly Citizens Bank Park and had and ol’ fashioned solo home run derby in South Philly. Tommy Medica broke a scoreless tie in the...

The Phillies REALLY want Giancarlo Stanton

Despite his injury-plagued season, Giancarlo Stanton is still attracting a lot of attention on the trade market.  Of course, that all might be a moot point if the Miami Marlins intend to keep him through his team control years.  If they do want to trade him, though, one partner might be the Phillies. According to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, the Phillies have tried to trade...

Phillies Rumors: Phillies interested in Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton

The Marlins were fielding plenty of offers for young outfielder Giancarlo Stanton at the trade deadline earlier this year, with teams such as the Pirates and Rangers showing interest. While those teams were showing interest, the Marlins showed no urgency to trade the 23-year old power hitter. Even though the Marlins intend on keeping Stanton, that isn't keeping teams away...

Coming Off The Flu, Roy Halladay Set To Take On San Diego Padres

The flu took its toll on Roy Halladay this weekend. Now, with two extra days rest to rebuild his strength, Halladay will take the mound against the San Diego Padres in South Philadelphia. Halladay's last start came on Wednesday, September 4. Watching the first inning, one would think that Halladay...
