The Phillies were looking for a quality start from Vance Worley tonight to snap out of their five-game losing streak. Impatient at-bats last night led to a 6-2 loss, and a terrible way to kick off the second half of the season.
Thankfully, an outburst of offense gave the Phillies a 4-0 lead in the first inning. First, Chase Utley singled to left to score Shane Victorino from second. After Ryan Howard walked, Carlos Ruiz sent a ball deep to the seats in left field for a three-run homer. Chooch continues his outstanding season.
Rookie Josh Rutledge was able to score in the third inning thanks to a single from Dexter Fowler. Fowler later scored on an RBI double from Carlos Gonzalez. The Rockies cut the Phillies' lead in half, but that's all they would get in the inning.
Vance Worley has been hitless all season, which is surprising since he went 10-45 last year. Tonight, he got his first hit on an infield single which was bobbled, and luckily...

I totally thought Vance was hurt.
The totally awesome Chad Moriyama makes awesome .gifs of baseball games, and I asked him if he could do us some Worley tripping. He was all for it and hooked us up. Check it out:
Here's another angle:
Now, I can't give you all three for free when they are on Chad's site. So check out the third angle of Vance falling flat...
The Phillies got their second half off to a bad start with last night's 6-2 loss, bringing them down back 14 games under .500. Cliff Lee took the loss as well, bringing him to 1-6 on the year despite allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits against the Rockies. Tonight Vance Worley will get the start in an effort to split the series.

Vance Worley fills out the bottom of the rotation, making starts like yesterday’s for the Philadelphia Phillies. Are the young guns in San Francisco getting the job done? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my recent coverage linked below.

Vance Worley will try to get the Phillies their first win after the All Star break when he takes the mound tonight in Colorado. Though Worley has excellent career numbers against the Rockies (2.25...
Gotta admit, this would be a lot less amusing if he was a skinny dude
Vance Worley pitched into the seventh inning and hit a two-run double, Carlos Ruiz added a three-run homer, and the Philadelphia Phillies hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak.
Worley (5-5) allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out two and walked two, worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and benefited...
Tonight, the Phillies downed the Colorado Rockies 8-5. For the Phils, who had lost five straight, and 11-of-12, coming into the contest, it was a much-needed victory. It took all-around effort, as only the middle relief didn’t contribute to the win.
Chooch's hot start to the second half has only fueled the rumors that he's super-human (AP)
VANIMAL DOES IT ALL
The Phillies had not won a series since June 20th, the last time they faced the Rockies. It is fitting then that almost a month later, their next series win also came against the Rockies.
On Saturday, Vance Worley led the team pitching 6.2 innings and allowing only 2 runs. The game was almost a rout as the Phillies led 6-2 going into the 8th inning. But the bullpen struck again,...
In an otherwise dismal season, Carlos Ruiz has been a godsend. If the Phils were in contention, Chooch would be a buzz name for NL MVP. As it turns out, wins have been few and far between in 2012 for the Phillies, but *twice this season a Phillie has performed The Howard (homerun, error, and strikeout all in same game) and the Phightins have gone onto win the contest. Last night...
It's been a while since the "Friday 5" has made an appearance here at The Hall. Then again, it's been since forever that MLB Fan Cave dweller (and friend of The Hall) Gordon Mack has had a chance to attend the MLB All-Star Game. That said, dude was in Kansas City for all the festivities and, naturally, had his five favorite moments from the Midsummer Classic.1...
With the first half of the 2012 season behind us, we’ve seen a lot of disappointments, some surprises and a lot of surprises in regard to fantasy baseball. Let’s look at a few catchers that have caught the attention of fantasy owners in the first half and what we might expect for the rest of the season.

The Indians catcher topped many pre-season lists...
The Phils took the series from the Rockies, their first series win in about a month, as they defeat Colorado by the scores of 8-5 and 5-1.
On Saturday, the Phils took the lead in the first as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits an RBI single, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had just doubled, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, after a walk...
