Bronx Baseball Daily:
Former Tigers righty, Armando Galarraga, who became famous for pitching an perfect game that was stolen from him by the first base umpire has been working out in Tampa with the Yankees and could sign with the team soon, according to Augusto Cardenas of Desde el Home, a Venezuelan baseball blog.
Galarraga, 30, has a career 4.69 ERA, 5.7 K/9, and 4.6 BB/6 over parts of five seasons in the majors. He last pitched in the majors with the Diamondbacks, but left via free agency and signed with the Orioles over the winter. He was then released by them about a month ago and has yet to catch on with another team.
Despite pitching a perfect game (I’ll always consider it a perfect game at least), Galarraga really isn’t a good pitcher. My guess is that if they do sign him it will be strictly a depth move in case there is an injury and he’ll do most of his pitching in Triple-A.

Mark Reynolds left manager Buck Showalter hanging in one of the funnier moments we’ve seen this season. The Orioles third baseman had crushed a solo home run in the third inning of Friday night’s win over the Red Sox when he made his way to the dugout. The homer was the first of the season for the slumping Reynolds, so his teammates gave him the silent treatment in the dugout...
I missed this when I was away celebrating my first anniversary last week, I don’t think I missed much. There was the Eric Chavez injury, but if that’s news then there is a dog barking across the street from my house that I need to tell you about.
Something did happen that I missed while I was gone, the Yankees signed 26-year-old Cuban outfielder Adonis Garcia to a one-year...
Mariano “Mo” Rivera is the best closer in Major League Baseball history and is arguably the best pitcher in New York Yankees history. His legacy is filled with clutch performances. If there were a baseball definition of “reliability,” “Mo’s” face would lay next to the word. For the past 18 years, there has been on rock of the Yankees pitching staff. That...
BBDP MVP: Caleb Cotham with 5 IP, ER, 7 K.

Brandon Laird: 2/4, BB, K (.266) Nice rebound from the 0/4 yesterday.
Ronnier Mustelier: 2/5, R (.400) When does this guy stop hitting?
Frankie Cervelli: 2/3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB (.221) After a slow start, he’s 11 for...
In the first major league game since 1925 in which both teams put a position player on the mound, Baltimore designated hitter Chris Davis overcame an awful day at the plate by pitching two scoreless innings and getting the win as the Orioles outlasted Boston 9-6 Sunday in 17 innings.
Davis went 0 for 8, striking out five times and grounding into a double play. But in a season full...
Nick Johnson needs a typical Nick Johnson season to secure his legacy. Not as an injury-prone first baseman — that’s his other legacy — but as an on-base machine. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter came into the year as one of fewer than 60 players in history [minimum 3,000 plate appearances] with a career OBP of .400 or better. Now with the Baltimore Orioles, Johnson was right...
The Baltimore Orioles are currently 1/3 of the way through a killer 15 game stretch that sees them playing nothing but contenders. I remarked at the beginning of the month, to no one in particular, that the Orioles would be lucky if they went 5-10 during this run...this would put them precipitously close to the .500 mark, and a downslide would inevitably take place. Well, after...
David Robertson struck out Carlos Pena with the bases loaded to end a rocky ninth inning in his first save chance since Mariano Rivera's season-ending knee injury, helping the New York Yankees end a seven-game skid against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 5-3 victory Tuesday night.
Raul Ibanez homered twice, Curtis Granderson also connected and the Yankees handed James Shields (5-1...
When I was a kid I had to beg my Dad to take me to bat day at the original Yankee Stadium. I mean, down on the ground, promise to clean my room, mow the lawn, be nice to Mom kind of begging. These were the days when the South Bronx left a lot to be desired from a safety vantage point on a good day so arming the lot of us probably wasn’t the best idea in the world. My Dad, who...
After his brief retirement, Andy Pettitts is set to make his return Sunday when his New York Yankees play host to the Seattle Mariners. In his four starts in the minors, the 39-year-old gave up 10 runs in 17 innings. He struck out 13 and walked just three. This will be his first start at the Major League level since he took the mound against the Texas Rangers during the 2010...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Phil Hughes had his best start of the season, Robinson Cano hit a grand slam and Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run blast as the New York Yankees routed the Kansas City Royals 10-4 Sunday to split the four-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Hughes (2-4) gave up three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings, his longest outing of the season, to pick up the victory. He walked...
Fresh* of taking 5 of 6 in New York and Boston, the O's come home to face off against probably the best team in baseball.* Actually, probably not very fresh at all, given the marathon yesterday. The Good:
Stu Pomeranz was called up before the game to add some depth to the weary bullpen (32 K's to 2 walks in 19 minor league innings this year). I was impressed with what...
Red Sox (11-15)
The two-time defending AL champion Texas Rangers dominated the last-place Baltimore Orioles last season, outscoring them by 29 runs over six games.
The teams don't appear to be as mismatched in 2012.
Baltimore has won five straight over traditional powers to seize the AL's best record, though it might be a bit fatigued as it looks to extend that streak Monday night in the...
After a 17 inning loss to the surging Baltimore Orioles, a loss in which one of their highest paid players was a staggering 0-8 from the plate, the 11-16 Red Sox are heading to Kansas City for a 3 game set with the Royals. The loss to the Orioles handed the Sox their 5th straight [...]
