Former Tigers righty, Armando Galarraga, who became famous for pitching an perfect game that was stolen from him by the first base umpire has been working out in Tampa with the Yankees and could sign with the team soon, according to Augusto Cardenas of Desde el Home, a Venezuelan baseball blog.
Galarraga, 30, has a career 4.69 ERA, 5.7 K/9, and 4.6 BB/6 over parts of five seasons in the majors. He last pitched in the majors with the Diamondbacks, but left via free agency and signed with the Orioles over the winter. He was then released by them about a month ago and has yet to catch on with another team.
Despite pitching a perfect game (I’ll always consider it a perfect game at least), Galarraga really isn’t a good pitcher. My guess is that if they do sign him it will be strictly a depth move in case there is an injury and he’ll do most of his pitching in Triple-A.
