Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
According to Joey DeMayo of Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest. The Mets will make a push for 2B Orlando Hudson and look to put Daniel Murphy in LF (even though he is playing some 2B in the AFL). Through Joe's source Minaya's thinking is he will use Murphy in a platoon with somebody like Nick Evans or a possible free agent like Minaya favorite Juan Rivera and put more money towards pitching. I like Hudson and I think he will be great for the Mets.
Speaking of pitching the Mets obviously need a closer. Joey DeMayo said they will look at free agents K-Rod (if the price is right) and Brian Fuentes. If they don't get any of them look for them to trade for someone possibly like a J.J. Putz or Huston Street. I think Fuentes will be a fit considering they need a lefty to get big lefties batters (IE:Howard/Utley) out.
Starting pitching will be another issue with Pedro Martinez and Oliver Perez becoming free agents. The free agent market has one big name on it in Sabathia. But he will be too high priced for the Mets and will look for someone like Derek Lowe. I think the Mets will make a move on a pitcher through via trade and might have to part with phenom Fernando Martinez (though this is pure speculation it might be a possibility).
The bullpen will have some middle relievers coming back maybe like a Pedro Feliciano and Joe Smith. They will give guys like Eddie Kunz and Bobby Parnell a chance. The Mets will not over spend on middle relief according Joey DeMayo, but might make a move on the free agent market like a Jeremy Affeldt and/or Juan Cruz. Both I think will be good acquisitions.
