TEAMS: Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers
According to John Heyman of CBS Sports, sources suggest the Dodgers are considering a variety of relievers, and could also make a play for either Indians closer Chris Perez or Mets reliever Bobby Parnell instead of Pirates Closer Hanrahan (Red Sox also have interest).
The Pirates are willing to consider trading Hanrahan, as they have re-signed Jason Grilli, who could close. The bullpen has been a Pirates strength in recent years.
The Dodgers would prefer a left-hander, but many of their best choices appear to be right-handers -- including Hanrahan, Perez and Parnell.
OF Andre Ethier has been mentioned on the block. Can the Mets pull of a deal with the Dodgers??? Is he a right handed hitting power hitter? No, but it is a power threat and he is in the prime of his career..

Mets Willing To Splurge On A Multiyear Deal For Hairston
Updated by Joe D. on 12/21
A team source told Newsday’s Marc Carig that the team remains in position to splurge on one multiyear deal this offseason. That will most likely go toward signing a right-handed-hitting outfielder.
With the makeup of the outfield market, the source said going beyond one year may be the Mets’ best avenue to “bring on a high-quality player.” Scott...
Mets 2013 Top 10 prospects
It was not so long ago when the Mets had an impressive major league roster but their list of minor league prospects left a lot to be desired. Now, in late 2012 after the trade of R.A. Dickey, the model has been flipped on its head. Despite having two of last year’s top five prospects from my list (Matt Harvey (#1) and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (#5)) graduate to the majors, this group is...
Frank Francisco Undergoes Surgery To Remove Bone Spur In Right Elbow
Mets just announced that RHP Frank Francisco underwent surgery today to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
Francisco is expected to begin throwing in six weeks and is expected to be ready for Opening Day of the 2013 season.
Wonder why they waited 2 1/2 months...
Jon Niese, The Improbable Ace
Dave Cameron of FanGraphs wrote a report for ESPN Insider, and listed Jon Niese as one of three left-handed starters that is developing into an unexpected ace.
“Niese shares are a lot of similarities with a young James Shields. His average fastball velocity is around 90 mph, and to balance it out he leans heavily on his cut fastball while also working in his curve and change...
Mets closer Frank Francisco has surgery on right elbow
Mets Closer Frank Francisco underwent surgery Tuesday in New York to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.
Team doctor David Altchek performed the procedure. He should be cleared to throw in six weeks -- comfortably before spring training.
Francisco did not appear after Sept. 16 during the regular season because of what was labeled elbow tendinitis.

The company bought naming rights to the stadium in March 2010. The company agreed to pay St. Lucie County $100...

Turn Back The Clock: Mets Top 10 Prospects 46 Years Ago Was Best Crop Ever
With the proliferation of web sites now dedicated to evaluating minor league prospects, fans have a fairly easy time reciting their team’s top prospects, usually “in order”. Back in the ’80′s, there was only Baseball America to provide this glimpse into the future. In retrospect, there were many more misses than hits, but it’s fun to look back on these lists and reflect...
ESPN: Mets Slated For Most Losses In Majors For 2013
Jayson Stark of ESPN, spoke with one of his colleagues Dan Szymborski, and polled some MLB executives and Vegas odds makers, to determine which five teams have most improved the most this offseason as well which five teams have least improved.
The consensus is that the Mets could tie with the Marlins for the most losses during the 2013 season:
As for what they had to say regarding...
Mets Injury News: Frank Francisco Undergoes Surgery
The New York Mets should still have their closer ready by spring training. However, Frank Francisco had to undergo surgery on his elbow to remove bone spurs. The 33-year old is signed through next season and is expected to be the Mets' Opening Day closer.
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Francisco had surgery on his right elbow, but the Mets expect him to be fine...
From Left Field: In Mets’ History, Farm System Has Lacked Strong Hitting
After the trade sending R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays, I started thinking that the Mets really have never developed a top-notch catcher out of their minor league system.
Todd Hundley is closest thing to being a productive home-grown catcher, which isn’t exactly saying much.
Of course, the most productive catchers in team history, Gary Carter and Mike Piazza, were acquired via trade...
For Mets, R.A. now stands for "Rebuilding ahead"
When I had the opportunity to interview R.A. Dickey last month, he told me that people were still suspicious of knuckleballers: The problem is, people still have this bias against the pitch. They think it's a gimmick, they think it's a trick pitch, illegitimate, whatever adjective you want to try and put there you can. It takes a little while to get people past that....
Amazin Mess: Leaving Dickey Out Of 2012 Highlights Video Is Insulting To All Of Us
R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young Award and 20 wins don’t count as highlights as far as the official Mets 2012 Highlights video is concerned. That is how Andy Martino of the Daily News puts it
In a video posted this week on the Mets official website, and emailed to fans, the team sent along holiday wishes, and presented a brief montage of highlights from the 2012 season.
It was all...
New Mets prospect apologizes for anti-gay slur
New Mets prospect Noah Synderaard — acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey trade — has already mastered the fine art of heading off the New York media before they get a chance to splatter a misstep all over the back pages.
Yesterday, when the righthanded pitcher was asked to comment during a conference call where he was introduced — along with catcher Travis...
Sizeless
With the lack of affordable outfield options available to the Mets, desperation was sure to crawl through the door. Mark down 12-20-2012 (palindrome) as the day that desperation finally made its way onto the Citi Field stoop, as they are once again looking at that ever popular "low-risk high-reward" road.
Take a look at this tweet from somebody that might be in the...
