The Mets are "kicking the tires" on free agent outfielder Cody Ross, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. It's unlikely the Mets would make a commitment of more than two years to any free agent, including Ross, according to Puma. The Phillies, Braves, Mariners, Red Sox, Yankees, and Orioles have all been linked to Ross so far this offseason. Earlier in the offseason it was reported that the SFX client has an asking price of $25MM over three years. Ross, 31, posted a .267/.326/.481 batting line in 528 plate appearances for the Red Sox this past season. He contributed 22 home runs and 34 doubles while playing all three outfield positions and earning $3MM.

R.A. Dickey is upset with the slow pace of contract negotiations

This afternoon at the New York Mets holiday party in Citi Field, R.A. Dickey told reporters he would test free agency after the 2013 season, if he does not sign a contract extension with the club this off-season.  Which R.A. said would most likely mean he will not be back in 2014. “If that’s the decision they feel like is best for the club, and that’s the decision that they...

Thoughts On Dickey and the Ongoing Mets Incompetence

Post updated by Joe D. on 12/12 Mike Puma of the NY Post sheds more light on what now appears to be a tenuous situation that existed between the Wilpons and R.A. Dickey even before Tuesday’s Holiday Party at Citi Field. Besides the financial roadblocks, what became clearer yesterday was a underlying tension between team and player. Dickey is frustrated he cannot get the Mets to...

MMO Mailbag: Shift Aderlin Rodriguez To The Outfield?

Alex In CT asks: With no real power corner outfielders to speak of in the Mets minors, would it make sense to shift Aderlin Rodriguez to left or right field? As it stands now he’s blocked by David Wright and Ike Davis at the corner infield spots. We know he has the bat, but does Rodriguez have the arm to play in the outfield? Sean Kenny replies: Before I start this response, I...

There’s A Gap Between How Mets And Other Teams Value Dickey

There appears to be a gap between how the Mets value R.A. Dickey and how other teams value him. Hey, that’s how the game is played. Now, with Shields and Greinke gone, the Mets would appear to be in a stronger position. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has asked for such a large package of prospects that some executives have wondered how serious he is about trading him. On the...

Boston Red Sox Rumors: What’s next for 2013?

Boston’s acquisition of Victorino is the team’s biggest move thus far (Getty/ Dunn) As winter meetings rolled around, the Boston Red Sox were busy making good on GM Ben Cherington’s pledge to spend money this offseason.  The club, fresh off a last-place finish and a 69-93 record, is in desperate need of an overhaul.  Or to put it more accurately, it needs to complete the...

Cy Young winner Dickey, Mets still negotiating

R.A. Dickey and Mets general manager Sandy Alderson can agree on one thing - they would prefer to have closure before opening day. The Cy Young Award winner can become a free agent after the 2013 season and says he won't negotiate once it starts, so the Mets probably have to sign him to an extension or trade him to get the best return. Dickey says it ''would be disappointing...

Gorski added to Mets roster

From the ACBL Darin Gorski (Quakertown, 2007; Kutztown,2008) was recently added to the New York Mets 40-man roster. The 6-4 LHP went 9-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 24 starts for Binghamton (AA) this summer. In 2011 he was the Mets Organizational Player of the Year after going 11-3 with a 2.08 ERA for St. Lucie (High A). He was a seventh round pick of the Mets in the 2009 draft and...

Believe It Or Not, The Mets Have Gotten Worse

It’s really hard to believe, but the Mets have gotten worse this off-season. They haven’t done anything to improve on their 2012 season. In fact, they lost a couple of players that helped them to their mediocre performance in 2012. There was a reason why the Mets waited until the Winter Meetings to sign David Wright to his extension, and have him stroll into that press conference...

Boston Still On The Lookout For Great New Additions To Team

By SBRForum.com The Boston Red Sox are still on the lookout for a pitcher that can fill the void that the team has had over the last few years.  As a team, they have struggled recently to produce quality pitching that will lead them back to the holy grail that is the World Series.  With so many prospects at their finger tips, they have firmly set their sights on a few high profile...

Mike Napoli to Boston deal being held up?

Mike Napoli is set to go to Boston on a three-year deal worth $39 million. Or is he? The two sides were supposed to get together for a press conference, that never happened. ESPN reported that Napoli was to undergo a physical Dec. 5. Ken Rosenthal reports that the physical was taken more recently. Neither Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington nor Napoli’s agent, Brian Grieper...

Mets Increase Their Offer to Keep R.A. Dickey

The New York Mets are asking for a lot in return if they were to trade R.A. Dickey.  For that reason, it may be more likely that the team extends his contract.  No matter what they do, they cannot let him pitch in 2013 without a new contract or a new team.  That just wouldn't make sense.  With that in mind, the Mets have increased their offer to Dickey. According to Andy...

The Red Sox Should Not Trade Jon Lester

Jon Lester's name has popped up in trade rumors off and on since the end of the season.  He has not been anywhere near one of the hottest rumors on the hot stove this offseason, but it is possible the Boston Red Sox could trade him.  However, John Tomase of the Boston Herald suggests that would be a bad move. Lester has been a workhorse for the Red Sox.  That obviously...
