Found November 05, 2008 on Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
According to Joey DeMayo and his latest report on New York Baseball Digest, suggest that the Mets will try and get two pitchers to add to their rotation. While many suspect that Jon Niese is slated to be the 5th starter, that might not be the case. The Mets are looking to add two veterans the staff...

There main priority is to talk to the Big Agent, Scott Boris and find some indications on how much it will take to sign Oliver Perez, who DeMayo says, " the Mets love". According to other sources and ESPN's Peter Gammons the Mets would love to add him for the price between $10-12 Million a year for no more than 3 years. Of course, Boris never low balls his clients and will find someone to bid against the Mets to get his price.. I don't think the Mets will play this game with Boris....

Another Boris client that the Mets would like to nail down to this unsteady rotation is Derek Lowe. Lowe is 36 years old and is looking for a 4 year deal. By the time the his contract ends he will be 40 yrs old.. There are many sources from media that the Mets are gun-ho for Lowe, even DeMayo says it in his article.. The Mets again have to face the Boris fury to get it done...

According to DeMayo, the Mets have slight interest in AJ Burnett, who just opted out of his contract. He most likely will be a backup plan to Lowe and will heavly recruited by many teams. I don't believe the Mets need this often injured pitcher, but that's not my call...

Other pitchers that the Mets will try to obtain are Randy Wolf or Javier Vazquez...

I believe the Mets will use Randy Wolf as a "if all fails" with Perez and others mentioned above. He also is a lefty which might make more sense for the Mets to sign him to replace the left handed arm of Oliver Perez. Wolf is 32 years old and probably won't seek nearly as much as anybody else..I think the Astros would like to retain him and he might go back...

The last scenario which was brought to my attention is a trade for Javier Vazquez...This is something I already wrote about, but now DeMayo and other sources are finally wrting about it. The thing I like is he is proven to log-in innings. He has thrown 183 innings or more in the last three years....Can you imagine Minaya getting Vazquez for Castillo and others (as long as it does not involve F-Mart, Niese, or Murphy)...Probably be the steal of the year or the biggest pipe dream of the year, LOL!!!
