The GM Winter Meetings starts today in Dallas and the event holds plenty of promise for adding new faces to the roster - including potentially finding a starting pitcher to complete the rotation. The Twins were aggressive with the left-handed Chris Capuano but ultimately lost out to the Los Angeles Dodgers when the veteran decided to sign for a two-year, $10 million to stay in the National League last week. Nevertheless, reports surfaced that the team has been connected to free agents Jeff Francis and Edwin Jackson. Jackson is a fairly young (28), right-handed power arm (averages 94.5 miles per hour on his fastball) who has been a 3-wins above replacement the previous two seasons and is now poised to command a multi-year deal which we estimated to be in the ballpark of three years at $11 million per year. Francis, on the other hand, is a slightly older (31 in 2012), left-handed soft-tosser (managed to average just 84.7 miles per hour on his “heater”) who has averaging 2-wins ...

Morosi: Pirates interested in Jeff Francis

The Pirates are one of the teams interested in free agent lefty Jeff Francis, says Jon Morosi, and now we have our first nugget of depressing information from Dallas! I actually thought Francis would've been worth a flier last year, when there was some uncertainty as to how he was going to recover from his shoulder surgery and there was a chance that he'd be able to recover...

Pirates Plan to Meet With Agent For Jeff Francis

Yesterday we heard conflicting reports on whether the Pittsburgh Pirates had interest in free agent left hander Jeff Francis. Jon Paul Morosi has an update today which says the Pirates are indeed looking at Francis. He notes that Francis’ agent plans to meet with the Pirates, Mariners, and Twins this week. Francis is meeting with the Mariners today.

Pirates Interested in Jeff Francis

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the clubs interested in Jeff Francis, according to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports. Francis is coming off a year where he was healthy for a full season with the Royals, putting up a 4.82 ERA in 183 innings. His advanced metrics suggests he was better than that ERA, with a 4.29 xFIP. Francis is similar to Paul Maholm in that both pitchers are left handed...

Pirates Interested In Jeff Francis

The Pirates are among the teams with interest in free agent lefty Jeff Francis, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.  The Bucs were in on Francis a year ago, but with a healthy season in the books he'll certainly require more than a one-year, $2MM guarantee this time. The Pirates also reportedly have interest in free agent pitchers Wei-Yin Chen, Tsuyoshi Wada, and Aaron Cook.

Mariners to meet this afternoon with agent for pitcher Jeff Francis

Join us here periodically as we roam the hallways of the Hilton Anatole hotel to bring you live footage of the goings on at the baseball winter meetings. Just as I told you about an hour ago via Twitter, the Mariners will meet early this afternoon with Jim Lindell, the agent for pitcher Jeff Francis, who pitched last season with the Kansas City Royals. Lindell lives in the Seattle...
