My first running diary of the 2012 season. The games I’ll be watching for at least a little while are Phillies-Pirates, Yankees-Rays, Marlins-Reds, Orioles-Twins, and Rockies-Astros. Let’t go. 7:12: Jeff Karstens has given up 2 hits and sac to start the game against the Phils. Uh-oh. Also, the Pirates first basemen is Matt Hague, who is that? 7:13: The Pirates color guy is weak, just about every thing he’s said has been contradicted by the next pitch. 7:14: New game, Rockies-Astros: Jamie Moyer time! Moyer has a grey beard. He just hit the first batter with a 79 mph pitch. Ouch? Oh wait, it was foul. 7:16: Th onscreen graphic says Moyer is the 4th oldest player to appear in an MLB game. Is that right? And oldest starting pitcher on an opining day roster, cool. 7:17: Jordan Schefer just hit a lead off homer off of Moyer, maybe he is too old. I didn’t know you could hit a ball moving that slow that far. 7:18: New game, Yanks-Rays. Speaking of slow, David Price just got Robbie Cano gro...

Rocky debut for Colorado's Jamie Moyer

Jamie Moyer made baseball history, pitching his way into the Colorado Rockies rotation and becoming the oldest starting pitcher to make an Opening Day roster. The 49-year-old left-hander is not impressed. He did not spend the past 22 months rehabbing from Tommy John surgery to become a trivia answer. His intent is to be a contributing member of a big-league rotation and help the...

A Small And Painful Point About Jamie Moyer and the Rockies

This doesn't give me any real joy to write, of course. It's basically the baseball equivalent of arguing for the euthanasia of a beloved pet.But if a 49-year-old guy is your #2 starter, and he's a marginal at best candidate to keep the job for any real length of time between his own effectiveness and health concerns...Well, that's not really a great thing to say about...

Jamie Moyer looks his age in loss, Nicasio takes hill for Colorado Rockies on Sunday

Jamie Moyer gave up four runs in five innings.Let the doubting commence. Is he too old?  Are the Colorado Rockies too cheap? How can they run out a team that features a 49-year old? Those are all questions that the pessimists will begin with as the debate their fellow Rockies fans on Sunday. They will say that this crazy experiment is a headline grabber on the Rockies part, and a...

Rockies' Moyer, 49, to make pitch for history vs. Astros

Although Jamie Moyer has convinced manager Jim Tracy and the Colorado Rockies that he has more in the tank, it will be the Houston Astros who will ultimately make that call on Saturday. At 49 years and 141 days old, Moyer will attempt to become the oldest pitcher to win a major-league game when he faces the Astros at Minute Maid Park. After missing the 2011 campaign following...

Video: Did Rockies pitcher Jamie Moyer discover a fountain of youth?

On April 7th, at 49 years old,  Jamie Moyer will make his return to the big leagues as he will be the starting pitcher for the Colorado Rockies as they take on the Houston Astros.  Moyer missed the entire 2011 season after having Tommy John surgery.  Many youthful pitchers that have undergone the same procedure have

HOUSTON (AP) -- J.D. Martinez homered and drove in three runs and the National League's youngest team, the Houston Astros, beat baseball's oldest player, 49-year-old Jamie Moyer, and the Colorado Rockies 7-3 Saturday night. Jordan Schafer took it deep leading off for the Astros and Martinez's two-run shot in the fourth made it 3-0. With gray stubble covering his chin...

Orioles Face Twins Tonight, Dylan Bundy, Albert Pujols and Jamie Moyer

Tonight, the Baltimore Orioles play their second game of the season as they face the Minnesota Twins at 7:05 p.m. This is the second contest in a three-game set. Right-hander Tommy Hunter squares off against southpaw Francisco Liriano on the mound. Hunter, who came into this season slimmer and more fit is looking to establish himself as the number two starter. Much like with the...
