TEAMS: Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres
Ryan Ludwick signed a one year contract worth $2.5 million with the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, and for those who say it may not be a big deal, fear not, my friends.
You see, it was not Ludwick who struggled since being traded from the St. Louis Cardinals to the San Diego Padres midway through the 2010 season. It was his surroundings.
“Playing in San Diego screwed me up. I’m not using that as an excuse or a crutch, but it turned me into a dead pull hitter. I got away from what I was as a hitter.”
Good thing he isn’t making excuses.
“It’s not a knock at San Diego or Pittsburgh, but it will be nice to be in control of the situation of where I want to play.”
Nah, doesn’t sound like a knock to me.
I believe Ludwick struggles with contradictions while speaking. I can see him as being one of those people who prefaces everything with “no offense” before insulting you. You know, don’t take offense to this following statemen...

Keith Law of ESPN Insider recently ranked all 30 MLB teams' farm systems based on players currently in their organization. Reds have what it takes to make run in 2012
Last year Arizona was baseball's sleeper, a preseason pick to finish in last place that emerged as the NL West champion. The year before, Texas ended the Angels' run in the AL West, and wound up losing the World Series to San Francisco.
Colorado was a surprise NL wild card in 2007 and 2009, and Tampa Bay stunned not only the AL East but all of baseball, advancing to the...
Word of the spring: ex·ten·sion
I love Brandon Phillips at second base. I love the ground he covers, I love the bat and I love when he lit the fireworks against the Cardinals that caused a team brawl.
I would also love to see him stay a Red. If the Reds are unable to sign Phillips to a contract extension then he will be able to test the free agent market after the 2012 world series (which, as has already been...

Friday news and notes
John Sickels has taken a look back at “Elite Prospects” from 2003-2007 over the past few days. There are some absolute stars on the list as well as a few flops. One thing that Sickels thought about why a few of the guys flopped was that at the time, he bought into guys breaking out while in the California League and those guys didn’t do much once they left the league...
Defining Success
If the Reds hope to make the postseason, Jay Bruce has to have a huge 2012.The 2010 season for the Cincinnati Reds was amazing, something the city hadn’t seen in 15 years. However when dissecting 2011, I never felt disappointed that the Reds hadn’t done better. Most of you fans expected the Reds to be in the postseason hunt. I guess the pessimist in me never got my hopes...
Reds organization preview, Top 20 Prospects
The Reds aren't shy about promoting their prospects early, and they certainly aren't reluctant to package them in blockbuster trades. Cincinnati used that latter route to acquire Mat Latos earlier in the winter, but the Reds still have a fertile farm system that should yield immediate dividends.
