MLB Interleague Matchup Insight Giants vs M’s Game 2

Ok I’ve been trying to get a read on the Mariners for a bit here with my bets, so I’ve been laying off for a couple weeks. I almost dropped some money on a few last week but glad I didn’t. I have a pretty good read on them right now though. I’m not sure Vegas does.

*MLB Matchup Report*

Giants Tim Lincecum, RHP 2-7, 6.00 ERA vs. Mariners Kevin Millwood RHP 3-5, 3.57 ERA

As ineffective Lincecum has been this season, he has pitched better at night (2-4, 5.37 ERA) than during the day (0-3, 8.40 ERA). Millwood the seasoned vet right-hander will make his first appearance since leaving June 8′s combined no-hitter with a slight groin pull after six innings.

San Francisco

San Francisco has been a tough team to track this year.

They started slow and all anyone seems to want to talk about is how awful Tim Lincecum has been…or now how great Matt Cain is. Somewhere in the middle they got back in the race in the NL West.

They are only 4 games behind the Major League leading Dodgers and have the third most wins in the NL. Despite Lincecum’s struggles they are doing it mostly with pitching.

What is up with Lincecum? There were rumors they were going to skip his turn but perhaps they thought a visit to his home state against a weak hitting club in a pitcher’s park might get him squared away. He has never faced the Mariners before which again might be to his advantage if any his mystique (or talent) still remains.

Game 2. Timmy is back in town! Giants vs. Mariners Handicapping Preview

Fading Lincecum has become a winning strategy but the value if fleeing from that angle.

Seattle

The Seattle Mariners have slowly but steadily sunk to the bottom of the AL West standings. They enter their series with the Giants starting Friday having lost their last 5 in a row including the last three to the lowly San Diego Padres.

(As I write this its 2-0 for the Giants in the 4th)

This is the worst team in the American League and it has little to go on to think that things might turn this season. When Felix Hernandez isn’t on the hill there is little reason to back this club.

You would never have guessed that at any point this year Kevin Millwood would have better numbers than Lincecum…but the crafty vet who came up when guys named Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine were stars is getting it done this year.

Only once in his last 6 starts has he given up more than 1 ER. If you are me though, you get the feeling that it could all fall apart at any moment.

Still this is a good matchup for Millwood.

O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Seattle 4 – San Francisco 2
