San Francisco Giants star Pablo Sandoval met with detectives of the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department who are investigating a sexual encounter Sandoval had earlier Friday.

However, Sandoval's attorney, Eric Geffon, told CSN Bay Area that while his client admitted engaging in a sexual encounter, it was a "consensual" situation.

"He (Geffon) made a statement. I cannot talk about those things," Sandoval said when reached by phone. "I'm just concentrating on my game and getting back to the team right now."

Sheriff's department officials have not made a public statement.

"On Friday, June 1, Pablo Sandoval voluntarily met with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department related to a consensual, personal relationship of a sexual nature that took place earlier that day," Geffon said in a statement. "Pablo fully cooperated with the Sheriff's Department. Out of respect for the process, we have no further comment at this time."

Sandoval has been sidelined for nearly a month, being on the disabled list after surgery on May 4 to remove a broken bone in his left hand. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Saturday's game with the visiting Chicago Cubs that Sandoval was in Stockton, Calif., to play in a game that day for Class-A San Jose, the first of a few rehab games planned before his expected return to the team next Friday.

Sandoval was hitting .316 with five home runs and 15 RBI at the time he was placed on the DL.
