According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, Johan Santana will not be with the rest of his pitching peers, who will be doing fundy drills at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Terry Collins said Santana will go through a relatively standard spring training, but he will be given ample time to prepare for bullpen sessions and other pitching work without having to be burdened by drills. Santana is scheduled to toss his third bullpen session of spring training at about 11:30 a.m. Tomorrow. “As I told every guy who sat in this room this morning, ‘Look, this is a team thing. But the ultimate goal is to make sure every single guy gets ready,’” Collins said. “And, individually, that might mean they’ve got to do something different. Tomorrow Johan goes through his pre-throw routine, which takes basically two and a half hours. I said, ‘Look, the deal is, at 11:30, when we do our bullpens, you’re ready for the bullpen.’ So to send him out at 10 o’clock to have him catching groundballs -- the guy’s got I ...

Johan Santana's second bullpen session goes well, Mets Eye Spring Opener for Return

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, the Mets are eyeing the March 5 Grapefruit League opener against the Washington Nationals in Port St. Lucie for Johan Santana's return to game action. Getting the nod for the first inning of exhibition play isn't any particular honor being bestowed upon Santana. Instead, it merely lines him up for working every fifth day, then pitching...

Fans Must Continue To Temper Their Expectations For Johan Santana

Despite numerous articles predicting a sub-par season and countless tweets attempting to convey the same message, many Mets fans continue to believe that the Johan Santana of old is preparing for the 2012 season. This week's endorsement as the opening day starter by Mets' manager Terry Collins, combined with three seemingly positive and uneventful bullpen sessions have only...

What to Expect from Johan Santana in 2012

The Mets lefty ace is a big question mark coming into the new season. It has been a long winter, but Spring Training is finally here! Pitchers and catchers reported to St.Lucie on Monday, and the first spring game will be Monday, March 5th against Washington. While I am quite excited for the season to get started, one of the concerns I have is what exactly the 2012 Mets are going...

Mets expect P Santana to be ready for opener

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he expects ace Johan Santana to be ready for opening day. Santana, who hasn't pitched in the majors since Sept. 2, 2010, threw off a mound for the second time this year as he attempts to come back from shoulder surgery. “In my mind right now, in my heart, he’ll be ready,” Collins said. “I don’t think there’s any question...

Jenrry Mejia and Johan Santana Take Huge Steps Forward

Mets pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia threw off a mound for the first time since he undergoing Tommy John surgery last May. Manager Terry Collins watched Mejia and said he was happy to see him on the mound again. “I thought he looked good and loose. He had really good extension”, Collins said. There’s a very good chance we’ll see Mejia back on the major league roster...

Santana will be allowed to skip fielding drills

Another round of fielding practice awaits most -- but not all -- Mets pitchers on Thursday. There will be one notable absence when the club's pitchers buzz through their second day of defensive drills: Johan Santana.

Mets Pitching Depth Could Get Scary

No one expects much from the Mets, but the reports of them being a 100-loss team are, in my opinion, greatly exaggerated. Vegas has their over/under at 74.5. I have also seen 70.5 as the number. I believe their offense and bullpen gives them a decent shot at about 75-77 wins, and that number doesn’t include Johan Santana in the rotation. That rotation is exactly where this...

Collins: Santana to be ready opening day (AP)

New York Mets manager Terry Collins anticipates Johan Santana will be ready for opening day. And despite drastic payroll cuts, he says the team will be a lot better than people think. As pitchers and catchers reported Tuesday, Collins said the Mets might find their own Jeremy Lin. Collins said every team has a player like Lin, the Knicks' out-of-nowhere star, and that it's all about...
