The Cubs and Giants were locked in a scoreless duel into the ninth inning when Nate Schierholtz homered off his former teammate Sergio Romo to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead. "Another one" manager Dale Sveum said. "Same game every night." Except this time the Cubs didn't blow it. It was their first 1-0 win over the Giants in San Francisco since May 8 1985 when Rick Sutcliffe outdueled Mike Krukow at Candlestick Park. Schierholtz now has three home runs and 9 RBIs on the road trip heating up just before the trade deadline. Will he stay or will he go? "I love it here" he said. "Ideally I don't want to go anywhere. I want to be part of the future here. I'm not over-thinking it." The Cubs won the series against the world champions and have won four of their last six games since Chris Rusin replaced Matt Garza in the rotation. "We've got a lot of guys in here who don't give up" Schierholtz said. "One of the things instilled in us in spring training was hard work and running balls out and not ever giving up. That's one of the biggest things a winning team does. You don't always have to have the best players to win a championship. I learned that here. "It's just been fun. We go out there loose got nothing to lose." Closer Kevin Gregg escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth getting a 3-2-3 double play to end it. Rusin shut out the Giants on three hits over seven innings. He retired the first 13 batters he faced and didn't allow a hit until two outs in the fifth. He said he was able to control his two-seamer keeping the ball down. After last year's audition the rookie said he feels much more comfortable now.
